The United Arab Emirates has achieved great success in developing its hospitality industry and its general economy. The country however is faced with a big challenge of having its local citizens work and feel part of the growing hospitality industry. The biggest part of the problem is that while the hospitality industry should be a social institution that is embedded into the culture of the host country, it is not viewed as such and there are various reasons for that. The current situation is quite worrisome because the expatriates who make up the biggest percentage of the Emiratis are also the majority of workers in the industry holding about 91% of all jobs in the public sector. Trying to make the hospitality industry to be acceptable to the local people is primarily hindered by the Western countries’ influence on the management practices. The lack of integration of religious and cultural ideals into the industry makes careers in the industry not favorable to locals.
Dubai, one of the Emirates that form the UAE has strategically positioned itself as an icon of tourism in the Gulf region. Consistently seeking to be bigger and better, Dubai is home to world famous icons such as the largest shopping mall in the world as well as home to the only seven star hotel. Despite all these, most of the tourist attractions do not focus on maintaining the cultural touch of the Emirate. This means that Dubai’s tourism and hospitality in general lacks the sense of identity especially the Islamic principles that would distinguish it from other places. Integrating the Islamic principles into the industry would entail having hotels and other tourist attractions that comply with the Islamic law like it is done in a country like Kuwait. Such complia...

This report discusses my applied study period work experience where I worked at The Midland Hotel. I chose to work at The Midland because I wanted to gain experience at a hotel located in the United Kingdom because I wanted to have a global view of the hospitality industry. In this report, I intend to cover the following areas: an overview of the business, structure of the company, current market position, product information and a critical evaluation of my own experience.
Billions of dollars have been spent on building the astonishing city of Dubai. Real estate construction worth billions of dollar is complete or is in the process of completion. It is a product of combined strategies of local businesses and innovative marketing. The projects include hotels, offices, entertainment complexes and huge shopping malls. The construction of landmark buildings and the city’s love for superlatives has placed it on the world’s property map. A big catalyst for the growth has been the government’s decision to allow expats to hold property in the city. But the sustainability of this growth remains an open question. (BAGAEEN, 2007)

Most of the Gulf Countries has an inadequacy of natural attractions, their arrangement of administration is practically indistinguishable and their tactics of diversification are pretty much identical. Hence, in order to rival against the other countries, they tend to focus on the tourism targets, aviation, real estate and large-scale events and exhibitions to brand themselves in a strategic manner (Hazime, 2011).
The reason I chose the Hotel Management industry is because it is a career path that I have always been interested in and curious about. It is a fast growing widespread global industry. I’ve always wanted an exciting career, which would integrate my business and creative skills in a way, which would be more energetic, active and fun than most orthodox and boring office desk jobs. I also desired to work in an industry, which I was fervent about. For my first year Applied study period I had the opportunity to work at The Taj hotels, resorts and palaces, India and my experience there established many of my principles of how the hotel industry operated. Despite my refining on the job experience, that allowed me to explore the various departments and requirements of the everyday job, I had never elaborately researched the prospects of working and skills and requirements required in the Hotel Management industry; and this Is exactly what I aim to accomplish with this report.
Helped With unique efforts by government and all other stakeholders, including hotel owners, resort managers, tour and travel operators and employees who work in the sector, Indian hospitality industry has gained a level of acceptance world over. It has yet to go miles for recognition as a world leader of hospitality.
Recently, UAE Government statistics show that expats make up over 88% of the UAE population while Emiratis proportion is relatively small about 11% of the population (Nissar Hoath, 2011). In fact, United Arab Emirates is considered as one of the countries that have a massive numbers of foreigners. Subsequently, it led to a huge imbalance in the demographic structure which eventually resulted other social and cultural concerns. UAE nationals are struggling every day with this imbalance as they feel they are under threat of losing their identity, values, customs, tradition and language. Furthermore, there are some challenges they face because of the way some foreigners behave and act. Therefore, the UAE government should act immediately to control
The United Arab Emirates (UAE), is a country that over a decade expanded exponentially. When it first started, UAE was a group of small tribes that made its living off of fishing, pearling, and goat herding. Now it is home to some of the largest monuments in the Middle East and its citizens are some of the wealthiest people on earth (About the UAE, 2016). Much of that has to do with the unique history and culture of the UAE. Much of the country’s success has to do with the unique physical environment, culture and history, and military.
Located in the United Arab Emirates we find the city of Dubai. Dubai emanates luxury with its hot weather, blue skies, tall buildings and a very modern impression. The fact is, that Dubai strives for this wealthy look as to attract other wealthy people. After the discovery of oil in the 1960’s the country underwent a transformation into a country with a high standard of living. Dubai, along with the rest of the UAE, strives for the image of equality and freedom of religion. Dubai itself is not only made up of Arab inhabitants but also includes European, Asian and some American dwellers as well. While any and all religions are accepted, Islam is the official religion of the UAE. Dubai has many attractions which includes their many luxurious

He added to tourism advancement by building up brandishing occasions, for example, the Dubai Summer Classic. The United Arab Emirates: Economic Vibrancy and US Interests, Asian Affairs. Competition, and yearly celebrations, for example, the Dubai Shopping celebration. Also, he started development on the sail-formed Hotel known as Burj Al Arab, which rapidly turned into Dubai's trademark and a sign of identity. Sheikh Mohammad also encouraged the formation of new vacation destinations, for example, Dubai land, an amusement park, and the Palm Islands, an approach to make an artificial island in the middle of the sea, which not only was a great success but also took engineering to a next level . As a result of such ventures, Dubai's greatest income after oil comes from tourism as millions of tourists visit Dubai annually as Dubai saw a rapid growth from having under 50 Hotels in 1985 to more than 250 in 2002.Tourists are appealed towards Dubai due to its warm weather in the winter, its shorelines, and its repellence to Western ways of life amongst its visitors, including alcohol obsessions. In addition to this, the attractions that Dubai's leaders have fabricated, surely added a cherry on the top to make Dubai the best travelling destination across the globe. Shaikh Mohammed has additionally coordinated a development of the facilitated commerce zone idea that started with the Jebel Ali free zone in the late 20th century. Apart from this mass communication was taken to an utterly new level by the introduction of an experimental commerce zone known as Media City which again proved to be a feat. Within this zone, partnership was able to exploit a great degree liberal exchange administration that imitates the starting Jebel Ali zone. Likewise, Dubai's leaders

The ambitious city-state of high-rise buildings, sunshine and of course, the shopping malls offered by Dubai attract a large number of tourists each year.

The travel and tourism is one of the leading job creators in the world recently. The tourism industry hires about 98 million people directly, signifying over 3% of all employment. If indirect and induced impacts are included in the tourism industry, it contributes to around one in eleven jobs worldwide. Over the last two decades for example, Travel and Tourism has played a more and more important role in the economic development of many countries especially less-developed ones. Increased travel across the globe has been driven by growth in greater amounts of leisure time; improved and highly accessible transportation systems; real incomes and including supply chains; highly effective communication systems that enable marketing and a important number of the new tourism services. The more visitors go to destination, the more restaurants, hotels and additional tourism services are needed and the more jobs in Travel and Tourism are created to stimulate the economy of a specific country. For example, in 2011, India and China were responsible for about 48% of Travel and Tourism jobs worldwide, compared with 43% a...
