The person can not live without using drugs. The world health organization has defined drug abuse as a state of periodic, chronic intoxication, detrimental to the individual and to the society, produced by repeated consumption of drugs either natural or synthetic." that means that, the feeling of wanting the drug results in using more and more of the drug and bigger doses.
The urge can become so severe that your mind can find many other ways to deny the factor of addiction. Very few drug addicts can feel and realize when they have crossed the line with drugs. A drug addicts mind can build up a very large tolerance for the drug that they start to abandon the activities they used to do on a daily basis like showering, hobbies, socializing and even being associated with family members. The person with the addiction will continue to use the drug knowing that it is harming there body, but they don’t have any remorse. A drug addict will often try to hide their problem, so they can continue to use without anyone’s input.
Addicts with some type of addiction can be virtually anybody in this day and age. Addicts play a major part in our crime rate going up. Crimes are being committed by addicts such as burglary, robbery, prostitution, carjacking’s, child abuse, child neglect, murders, drug trafficking, home invasions, theft, including shoplifting, identity theft, credit card theft, bank fraud and even stealing from loved ones. Some addicts are a public nuisance, driving up unemployment rates, becoming more dependent upon social services, raising the risk of homelessness, breaking up homes, and causing strained relationships. The lifestyles of some addicts are raising the death rate in the US because of their risky behaviors.

Drug dependency comes with many consequences like negative symptoms, depression, health and mental issues and death. Drug abuse does not only affect the addict, but also the people around one.

The cost of drug abuse on our society is astronomical, not only financially but also personally, emotionally, socially and professionally. Drug abuse is the misuse or overdose of any medication or drug, including alcohol. Addiction is compulsive need for and use of a habit-forming substance (as heroin, nicotine, or alcohol). Someone who is addicted or hooked psychologically believes that they cannot function without this substance in their bodies. Drug and alcohol addiction and tear families apart, they change individuals who once were the best people to be around with. Most addictions start at an individuals adolescence age where they just learning who they are and how to fit it. Drug addiction can and most of the time leads the individual to stealing from friends and even family.

Jalil) Peer pressure is probably the main reason most teens abuse illegal drugs. During puberty, many teens suffer with depression. Depression is when a teen is not happy with themselves for real or imagined reasons. They may be suffering from low self-esteem or torment by others, leading to not being happy with their appearance or other physical features.
The abuse of alcoholic beverages can cause a person to become an alcoholic. Underage drinking is illegal and harmful, but that does not stop minors from partying. Alcoholics can cause emotional pains throughout the family causing the families to suffer. Many people enjoy drinking but very few people understand the harm it is doing to the health of their bodies, and how it can ruin their lives. Alcoholism can have a negative effect on a person’s overall character, health, and morals.

It has been known to tear families and relationships apart all around the world and it seems that it is slowly getting worse. Drugs and Alcohol ruin lives, do you really want to be another one of them? Its hard to stay away from these things with all the peer pressure and when friends are doing it, but all you have to do is take a step back and think “This will ruin everything I have going for myself”. It is a major problem in the U.S. And they work very hard to try and stop it, but it always takes that one person and it would make a world of difference.
The inability to move on from past events makes the characters abuse chemical substances to escape their past events. However, it becomes clear to the characters that they cannot escape the reality they face. The resentments the characters display for one another is exponentially abnormal, and can destroy a family. Jamie’s monologue exhibits all of these problems that addiction creates within a family.
