In the past years driving under the influence bad gotten so popular. Due to teenagers having the wrong person behind the wheel. Putting innocent peoples' lives in jeopardy because some adults do not know to responsible and control the way they are drinking. But turns around and gets behind the wheel of a car knowing that their body is full of liquor and their vision is not even clear enough to focus on the road. For example, mental illness is a life-changing event. But the only way for you to have mental illness in the middle of your life is experiencing or being involved in an event that you just cannot get rid of it if you want because many remember oneself as and a good person. Yes, you have some people that will do the crime and do not care and move in their life like nothing even happen. But for people that caring it can change that person forever. Because they know they did something wrong and they cannot fix the problem even if they want to. Having oneself thinking about it and knowing that they were being irresponsible with their drinking. Knowing that an event like this is not going to go away fast enough. It’s like the guilt is eating the inside of the person. Taking someone else’s life is like taking two lives. The reason why I say this because your life will not have any peace knowing that you had murdered and innocent person that did not deserve to die so early or before their time. Plus, if you are changing then your surroundings will also change because people will look at you differently. Let’s say you get mad easily and blame the world for your problems. It’s too many lives being taking away every day from an irresponsible person. Especial children live, innocent ones that just be playing outside doing what children’s do. Then out of nowhere a person come and kill them. It’s really time to make a change and try to decrease the number of kids and other people being killed. Time to go to the community and talk to other drinkers that have cars and children’s. But have not killed themselves or others yet, while being intoxicated. Trying to convince them to stop while they can, before they do in up killing themselves to somebody else. Showing that once this happens their happy life become into to a nightmare. Then people start to look at them different once they had murdered someone is irresponsible and not controlling the way they drink or knowing not drive while they are intoxicated. Also, use their children as an example of what would happen to kid under age dying and ask them question how it would feel to lose someone you love the most? Asking them how much it will hurt? I think that it is agreed by all parties that the prodigious number of sober drivers in our neighborhoods, city streets, and country roads is at present deplorable to the state of our great nation. Currently, a whopping ninety-eight percent of Americans of driving age feel threatened by those who drive under the influence of alcohol, which means that only two percent of Americans are able to fully relax and enjoy themselves while on the road, and with the growing awareness, this number could be on the rise (MADD Online: General Statistics 1). What a travesty! All drivers, and passengers alike, should be put at the same risk for danger, be it damage, injury, or death.
The facts are plain and simple, that alcohol and driving do not mix. About three in every ten Americans will be involved in an alcohol related crash at some time in their lives. What is the number one cause of teenage deaths in the United States? In this country a teenager dies due to alcohol related car accidents every twenty-two seconds.
Alcohol is causing too many deaths. Each year, excessive drinking is responsible for the deaths of 80,000 people in the United States, 4,700 of which are young Americans (6). Alcohol by itself is dangerous; this danger is (made greater) when individuals consuming it are allowed to drive a vehicle. Research has shown that a pedestrian struck by a vehicle moving at 40 miles an hour has a fifty percent chance of getting killed as a result of the impact (9). A distracted or impaired driver will not be able to react as fast as a non-impaired driver, meaning a drunk driver is a more dangerous driver than a sober one.

The worst art of it all is that this problem is preventable though it is the leading causes of loss of lives in our roads and destruction of properties. It requires all parties to exercise caution and restraint while on the roads but above all it is a matter of discipline which if addressed then it goes along way in saving the human race.
There is knocking at a door late at night, and there a policeman standing at the door with information that a family member was in an accident that involved a drunk driver. This is one of those things people hear and believe that it will not happen, but it happens every day. The growing awareness of alcohol hazards has made people more cautious of their drinking habits, particularly young adults. At present young adults have the highest prevalence of alcohol consumption than any other age group. They also drink more heavily, experience more negative consequences, and engage in more harmful activities, specifically drunk driving. Although surveys have documented a decline in recent years, consumption rates remain highest from late teen years to the late twenties (Johnston1-3). Despite the long-term decline since 1982 in alcohol related traffic deaths, a 4 percent increase occurred between 1994 and 1995 among young adults age 21 and over (Hingson 4). As alcohol-impaired driving persists, legal and community initiatives intervene to help reduce the problem, as well as, continuing research on possible solutions.
When someone makes the decision to consume alcoholic beverages, it should go without saying that they should also be choosing to be a responsible drinker. Being a responsible drinker means not consuming more alcohol than their body can handle and more importantly, not getting behind the wheel of any type of vehicle after drinking. In an article written by high school student Steven Engler, he says it well; “If you choose to use it, do it responsibly, and don’t put anyone’s life in danger, including your own.” (New York Times, 2003) No matter the person’s age or the type of alcohol consumed, alcohol lowers a person’s inhibitions and ability to think clearly, while also increasing their chances of engaging in risky activities. It is possible for a person to have a few drinks, relax and have a good time however, all too often people overdo it and end up making bad decisions that they most often regret. Many times, the worst of these decisions is convincing themselves that they are “fine” and what they drank will not impair their driving. Some may say that these individuals simply “made a mistake.” Yes, everyone does make mistakes however, driving while intoxicated is not a mistake that affects only them, it is something that affects and risks the lives of many people and themselves. The sad thing is that drunk driving is one hundred percent preventable and therefore the loss of lives due to the recklessness of drinking and driving is preventable as well.
