These days, many students are opposed to having a dress code. Whether you can dress however you want with few restrictions, or a highly strict dress code with required suit. Dress codes in schools are unnecessary for many reasons. One, It limits the students freedom of expression. Two, It makes the students uncomfortable so that its harder to learn. Three, It is sexist and targets women. Four, dress codes don't improve scores and grades, and five, It can lower the students self esteem.

In some schools their uniforms only come in limited sizes. This can make the student, male or female, feel uncomfortable with their body and want to change themselves. Because of this it can cause the student to have odd mood changes and up and down personalities. This also has to deal with the families also. Parents buy their kids new nice clothes and their kids never even get the chance to show their friend or wear them during the week. The only time they get to show people is on the weekends. (Cook, 2018) Also, school dress codes are uncomfortable and either “too hot or too cold”. Usually when your in class, sitting down for a long period of time, you want to be as comfortable as possible. Not only does it make students feel uncomfortable physically, but depending on how the dress code is set up, it also makes them feel uncomfortable in a mental state, of how they look or about how others are looking at them with the uniform on. Children go to school to learn, so how would the way you dress impact anything on your grades and the way you behave? It wouldn’t impact it. That is why the grades and behavior in dress coded school and non- dress coded schools are most of the time the same. Yes, behavior in non- dress coded schools are lower, but it has nothing to do with dress codes. It mostly has to do with that most non- dress coded schools are public schools and dress coded schools are private schools, and most of the time, public schools naturally have a lower behavioral rate than private schools in general.
