There have been thousands of influential American leaders over the last few centuries. There have been leaders in America that have not become presidents. A great example is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He led African Americans to fight peacefully for their rights. Although Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was not a president, the great American Leader I will be writing about was a president. He was the 40th president of the United States. He was Ronald Reagan. Entering his presidency, the economy was in horrible condition. Having the skill to focus on other things and not only the main problem which was the weak economy at that time demonstrates a great skill of his he had as an American Leader. Reagan made changes that effected the American people directly. For example, he rapidly reduced the amount of work and paperwork that needed to be done to apply for jobs, passports, green cards and much more. For the known American Leader 's that have not become president, they are usually known for the positive impact they had on society. For presidents, that might not be the case. When a president is elected into office, they 're expected to help America and the American people grow and develop. Presidents have the ability to promise American 's things during their campaign that may not be possible or may not happen during their presidency. As long as they are elected into office, they will usually be satisfied. That 's the scary part. There have been presidents over the years that have done nothing to push America in the right direction.
