She breaks the self-care into three parts universal, developmental, and health deviation self-care requisites. Universal self- care requisites emphasize on the activities of daily living. Some of the main parts are eating, exercising, socializing, and sleeping. These are key parts in ensuring that you are taken care of and that you are maintaining a stability of health wellness, but also social needs. Developmental self- care requisites centers on altering your lifestyle with the changes around you. Lastly, Health deviation self-care requisites are the changes that you make in order to treat a condition or situation that you have. This would mean that you take necessary steps to ensure that it is being controlled (Orem, 2012). People learn and adapt the environment that they are in this theory elaborates on that statement and the reinforcement behind the decisions. When someone makes a decision it is usually followed by a positive or negative experience. If you have a positive experience or if you see someone else have a positive experience then you are more likely to make that choice again. We learn from example and the experiences that follow (Bandura, 1972).
Dorothea Orem’s theory of self-care fits to our study because it discusses the importance of self-care. Sleep is a form of self-care, as it is vital for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Sleep deprivation is detrimental to self-care and if people put more of their time into healthier sleep patterns they would probably have a more positive experience. This would create a chain effect and maybe influence them to make the decision
