Slavery was truly an atrocious time in our nation’s history. Countless numbers of beatings, deaths, rapes, and sorrowful moments occurred during this time. This was a time when native people of Africa were evicted from their homes without a second thought. They were given the worst possible accommodations at the bottom of a ship during the long journey to America. When they arrived, they were auctioned off at conventions as if they were items or animals. When sold, they worked on plantations. They would work almost constantly; often, even on Sunday. There were given the absolute minimum living conditions and accommodations, barely enough to keep them going. In addition to having no opportunity to get an education, families were often split up at auctions while others were forced together for monetary reasons. Although many slaves found religion when they arrived in the New World, even that was bittersweet.
