Horace Elgin Dodge and John Dodge created their first truck in 1914, the Dodge Model 30. The Dodge Brothers’ cars’ were ranked at second place for U.S. sales as early as 1916. Dodge cars have come a-long ways in 100 years, along with their advertisements. These advertisements helped create the billion dollar company and without them, Dodge would not have sold the millions of cars and trucks they have already sold. Modern day advertisements are the basics of selling cars; including the “Ground Attack” Dodge Ad and the 2014 Dodge Ad. Although the “Ground Attack” Dodge ad and the 2014 Dodge ad are both good ways of selling a truck, the ground attack dodge ad is better because its design, details, theme, and mood are all superior to the modern Dodge ad.
Throughout the years of truck designing, Dodge’s trucks have greatly improved in appearance and functionality, but unfortunately, their advertisements have not. The “Ground Attack” Dodge Ad shows a tough, athletic truck as the prominent image. This image is important because it grabs the reader’s attention. This tough, muscular image gives the consumer the idea that they can take it out off-roading, when realistically it will end up as the grocery-getter. Just the thought of this off-roading makes the consumer acetous to go out and buy this truck. The new 2104 Dodge ad shows a shiny, calm truck as a way to catch the reader’s eyes. This style of advertising is very successful in selling trucks, but it is the same style of advertising that Dodge used 20 years ago, not matching the improved appearance of the trucks. If Dodge were to change this, it would greatly improve the scheme of selling trucks, using new advanced advertisement, to new advanced trucks. Prominent image depends gre...

...uy their truck. The Ground attack dodge ad has quite the opposite theme. Looking at the background of this advertisement, we can determine that the theme of this ad is powerful and off-roady. This is determined because the background is of a beautiful truck traveling at a high-rated speed, because we see dust; and also surrounded by trees. Themes are very important because they determine the mood of the reader, making the ad successful, or even worse; not successful.
Overall, the theme, prominent image, and background of are the most important things in advertising. Prominent image is used with background to intense the readers to buy the truck. Although the “Ground Attack” Dodge ad and the 2014 Dodge ad are both good ways of selling a truck, the ground attack dodge ad is better because its design, details, theme, and mood are all superior to the modern Dodge ad.
One propaganda technique the Jeep commercial uses is emotional appeal. The song brings inspirational and happy feelings to everyone. It also makes people want to watch it over and over again. Another way that is shows emotional appeal is when it shows lots of people enjoying their Jeep and smiling. That makes many people think that they will be very happy if they buy a Jeep. The propaganda technique of emotional appeal brings lots of happy feelings to their commercial.
Other commercials, according to Solomon, thrive on fitting in. The Chevrolet commercials have a slogan that makes one feel to be American, one must by American. Chevrolet's slogan is 'The Heartbeat of America.'; Car commercials also have targeted markets also. For a truck commercial, they will show a truck getting all dirty and going through an obstacle. This is targeted towards men because most men find these things appealing. For a luxury car commercial the mood or the commercial is nice and pleasant, the car is on a country road (representing one driving to there country home). These cars were once targeted towards upper class people, but now they are targeted towards everyone according to Solomon. A commercial strives on the ever so enduring drive for Americans to have better things and climb up the social status ladder. Marketers know this, so they place normal, average, everyday looking people in their commercials to let middle class people know that they can have the car, too.
Everyone loves old people. The elderly as a whole are viewed as a wise, tough, and compassionate group. Dodge takes advantage of this fact in their most recent commercial featuring elderly people who are all around 100 years old, to associate their brand as a well established, trustworthy, and reliable company. The ad is effective in leveraging the wisdom and knowledge of the elderly while associating Dodge as a brand that utilizes ethos, pathos, and logos in their commercials. Dodge takes advantage of societies general admiration and trust in general for the elderly and use these feelings to try and persuade people to purchase their vehicle, in particular the Dodge Challenger.
Visual advertisements are straight and to the point for some people. People do not take into account the visual messaging going on throughout the ad. It takes companies a considerable amount of time to create advertisements that are somewhat appealing to the human eye. By adding bright colors and large letters the ad will grab anyone’s attention. In fact, people will be able to see it and read it from a distance better. To show that there are many of small details in a visual advertisement, look at the Old Spice Matterhorn shower gel advertisement.
While obviously having to talk about what the new truck had to offer, it kept the attention of the consumer with all the new advancements. In the advertisement for the 2015 Ford F150 it is easily perceived that convincing word choices, the setting, and the overall logistics of the advertisement appeals to the all American hard working man.
The front face view allows the viewer to see the problem and or situation at first hand. It is the image that attracts the eye to first. Smoking is a well-discussed topic in the media; due to it kills lot of American’s lives. The way the shadow of the hand hits the background gives the illusion that the cigarette is a gun. The symbolizes that smoking the cigarette is like putting a gun to your mouth. The ad is in black and white, which allows the reader to feel the mood of the ad. The black sets the mood of sadness and death. Black in the art world means death and pain. The white resembles purity as stated in “ How to Read Literature like an English Professor” by Thomas Foster. The purity of you life is leaving when you smoke. These symbols allow you to connect with the ad more.
I have chosen two advertisements that look different, but are selling the same products. The brands have different perspectives and different audiences. One is a Durango boot advertisement and the other is an advertisement for Ariat’s line. The Durango ad is a picture of two people, a man and a woman, on red rocks like the ones in Arizona and New Mexico. The male figure is in a bent knee, crouched position, wearing sunglasses, a cowboy hat, a brown leather vest, a white tank top and blue jeans with brown boots. The female figure is laying in front of the male figure,
In this essay I will describe an image taken from an advert and use visual methodological approach to analyse and depict the different set of meanings produced by this image. In order to explicate my ideas I will provide a brief outline of the picture. Then, I will describe a number of coded and non coded meanings and how the advert is employing a range of signifiers to communicate messages to the consumer and reinforce the brand identity. (Barthes 1972)
Nowadays, commercial is becoming a major part of mass media. It does not only try to inform people about the availability and attractiveness of industrial good productions but also contribute to build an awareness of resources and alternatives for customer in daily life. There are thousands of commercials, so to attract customer, advertisers use various kinds on their commercial to make people aware of the firm's products, services or brands. Though they use various kinds on the commercial, the main goal of advertising tries to convince customer to buy their products, or do what they want. An excellent commercial will create a deep impression on their customers, or who want to become their customers by using three classical appeals: pathos, ethos and logos.
For this paper, I looked at two ads that I found extremely powerful. The first ad has a picture of a woman who cannot be recognized at all, with a picture of what she used to like in the bottom left corner of the ad. The ad states that “not everyone that gets hit by a drunk driver dies.” Thus revealing the woman as a victim of a drunk driver. The second ad that I have selected was a picture of a parking stall for handicapped drivers. The ad has in bold white letters “Every 48 seconds, a drunk driver makes another person eligible to park here.” These ads are both powerful in their own sense, however, the ad with the victim of the drunk driver strikes me much harder than the one with the handicapped parking stall. Although both of these ads use a strong sense of pathos to get you to feel bad for those affected by drunk drivers, the ad with the picture of the victim has a much stronger effect.
...rn society sees women as real people with intellect. Instead of not being allowed or perceived as capable of controlling their own lives and situation, today's women are expected to control their own lives without interference or constant dependence on others, or more specifically, their husbands. These advertisements demonstrate just what a drastic change has taken place in the last fifty years. Even though both ads are about cars, the body image, body language, and text portray a striking difference in the view of women. Maybe this change was brought about by the Women's Liberation Movement, maybe such subjugation just cannot last forever. But whatever the cause, the change has definitely taken place.

We see advertisements all around us. They are on television, in magazines, on the Internet, and plastered up on large billboards everywhere. Ads are nothing new. Many individuals have noticed them all of their lives and have just come to accept them. Advertisers use many subliminal techniques to get the advertisements to work on consumers. Many people don’t realize how effective ads really are. One example is an advertisement for High Definition Television from Samsung. It appears in an issue of Entertainment Weekly, a very popular magazine concerning movies, music, books, and other various media. The magazine would appeal to almost anyone, from a fifteen-year-old movie addict to a sixty-five-year-old soap opera lover. Therefore the ad for the Samsung television will interest a wide array of people. This ad contains many attracting features and uses its words cunningly in order to make its product sound much more exciting and much better than any television would ever be.
Smiling faces, beautiful women and “American made” were the typical elements in advertisements during this decade. DDB’s first “big idea” behind the campaign was no different; The main goal was to make the Volkswagen more American by shooting Suzy Parker standing next to a Volkswagen. It wasn’t until after visiting the production line and watching the step by step production of the Volkswagen did DDB strike gold with an innovate new “big idea.” What resonated with the American advertising team the most during this visit was the incredible quality control of the German factory, thus they decided on “an honest car promoted with Honesty.”
