I began my search for answers with an article titled “5 Reasons Why Cell Phones Are Bad For Your Health” by Lizette Borreli. In this article, Borreli explains that while cell phones can be
Although I love my phones, but I have seen bad accident happens because of cell phones. The government made rules about cell phones, but not everyone fallows them. Eventually, I was reading this article on Facebook about a teen whom got shock by his cell phone, which popped his vain and hospitalized him. According to Anderson Cooper interview with Sanjay Gupta, they states that having your cell phone tightly to your ear is dangerous because more radio wave is being push to your ear which is bad for the brain. More important, Sanjay says, “It’s good to read the phones manual, because some phones states the range the phones supposed to be next to your ear.” For example the Blackberry manual states to keep the device at least .98 inches away from your body. Above all, teen and adults today are not being careful with their cell phones. At very street there are always a person with their eyes on their phone, without looking where they are going, it later becomes the reason for their death. In fact, when the phone goes to waste, it becomes a problem to the environment if not recycled properly. Since the battery is made with lead, their lithium-ion can explode if stayed in the sun too much. Above all, since we are so addicted to our cell phones, it becomes one of our bad habits, and it later influence our grammar. Cell phones is a device that we can’t live without, although we have tried so hard to overcome it, but our intentions are always on it. Whether cell phones are good or bad, but remember it is the one product that keeps everyone connected at the palm of your
Cellular phones are the world’s most popular mobile device used by Americans today. What many Americans fail to realize are the negative impacts cell phones may have on someone. Cell phones are distracting, they can cause benign tumors and cancer, can used for cyber bullying, spread germs, and viruses, and are highly addictive. Indeed, billions of people all over the world use cell phones. Many of those people do not realize how dangerous cell phones really are.
According to Lizette Borreli, “ Ninety-one percent of American adults and 60 percent of teens” own a cell phone. This is almost all of America that owns a cellphone. Although it is very common for those with cellphones to text as their primary form of communication, the use of a cell phone when speaking to one verbally can negatively impact the cell phone user’s health. Short-term effects of cellphones include “tissue heating.” This process occurs when a cell phone’s contact to the body transmits its energy into the skin, resulting in a rise in temperature of the organs ("Electromagnetic Fields and Public Health: Mobile Phones." para. 8). Even though this may not lead to immediate negative effects, it degrades the body over time, exemplifying why cell phones not only have (insert) tolls, but physical ones as
The cell phone is a mobile cellular device thought to be one of the greatest inventions of all time. On April 3, 1973, the first cell phone was invented by a man named Martin Cooper. Since then the cell phone has developed substantially. It has come from a phone that weighs 2½ pounds and is 10 inches long with no screen to a phone that weighs 4.55 ounces and 5.44 inches long 2.64 inches wide with all different kind of features. With the great advancement of the cell phones comes a greater risk for health issues. In this paper I will be talking about the harmful effects of cell phone usage. What will happen if you use your cell phone too much? How will too much cell phone usage affect your health?
In 1998 a Maryland neurologist, Dr. Christopher Newman, was diagnosed with brain cancer and he could no longer work as a result of his disease. He claimed that the Motorola cell phone he had in 1992 to keep in touch with his patients gave him cancer. Then in 2000, he filed an $800 million lawsuit against several wireless providers including Motorola Inc., Verizon Communications Corp., Bell Atlantic Mobile Systems, and others. Within a month, the U.S. District Judge Catherine Blake dismissed the case due to lack of evidence. This case happened during a time where people were confused about how electromagnetic radiation affects the human body. Fast-forward to today and there is still confusion. A lot of people today feel like they are at risk from developing cancer from electronic devices like cell phones, microwaves, and laptops. That is simply not true.
Cell phones give off a radio frequency that can be absorbed by tissues close to the phone. Radio frequency energy can be absorbed into cell phone users’ brain cells. Studies conducted by the World Health Organization shows no increased health risk due to radio frequency energy. (“Interphone study reports..”). Many believe that since cell phone usage has went up, brain tumor rates have went up. In a study that followed more than 420,000 cell phone users over a period of 20 years, researchers have found no evidence of a link between cell phones and brain tumors. (“Is there any link..”). Cell phones are unable to cause brain cancer, and there have been many studies to prove it.
For example, talking too much over cellphones can damage hearing. According to study in Use of Cell Phone Long Hour Cause Hearing Loss, “Those who used mobile phones for more than four years had more hearing loss in high-frequency ranges in their right ear, the ear most held the phone to, than those who used the mobile phone for one to two years” (Dohheny). Another example is using cellphones for a long period or too much is bad for the eyes. The vision of the eyes can get weaker by looking at the cell phone screen. According to the article Does staring at screens all day really damage your eyes?, found that 61 percent of Americans have experienced eye strain after prolonged use of electronic devices — nearly 2 out of every 3 people (Hill). One of my friends in school was wearing glasses when I saw her one day. I said, “What happened? Why are you wearing glasses?” She said, “My eyes are in pain.” She told me that she had been typing all night on her cell phone. The reflected light that comes from electronic devices’ screens can cause eyestrain because of long-period concentration on the screens. Furthermore, cell phone can also damage the brain and possibly cause brain tumors. Lloyd Morgan, a member of the Bioelectromagnetics Society says, ' 'Science has shown increased risk of brain tumors from use of cell phones, as well as increased risk of eye cancer, salivary gland tumors, testiculars cancer,
Ever since the invention of the first cell phone in 1973, the use of cell phones has increased and it has changed the way people communicate drastically. Cell phones are a portable device that uses frequencies to send and receive calls and text messages over two devices and it has been regarded as the most commonly used portable device. Cell phones use and emit radio waves and microwaves so inevitably, this begs the question of whether or not cell phones are dangerous. There has been many concerns that the use of cell phones can cause brain tumours and/or other health risks, so over the past many years scientists from all over the world have conducted researches and are still researching to see if there are any links between cell phones and cancer and to figure out if cell phones really are dangerous.
If someone was to walk down the street or in a shopping store and they looked around more than likely they would see people using cellphones everywhere. Cellphones have become an everyday need for almost everyone; they are more advanced than ever. They do just about everything there are ones that play music, game, take pictures, and even surf the web. But are cellphones safe to use in our everyday lives? Many critiques believe that cellphones are becoming increasing dangerous, hundreds of car crashes occur daily from cellphone usage and many believe that cellphones can be linked to cancer and other illnesses.
All phones aren't equal in radiation levels. Each phone has different radiation level. Cell phone radiations are responsible for health factors such as brain cancer, skin damage, brain damage, sleep trouble and heart problems.
Cell phones have been gaining popularity throughout the nineties. There are now over ten million cell phone users in America alone, and it is estimated that in 2005 there will be over 1.26 billion cell phone users worldwide ( Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association ). Many chemicals in our environment have long been known as cancer causing agents. These chemicals include radiation , asbestos, BPDE, and tamoxifen.(Cancer.gov). But none of these chemicals were recognized as carcinogens until several people contracted cancer of some type by being exposed to them. Cell phones have been proven to admit a certain type of radiation about which the effects are unknown.
Since the telephone’s invention in 1876, it has made human communication easier and added to the convenience of life. Being able to talk to a person that is hundreds, or even thousands of miles away has enhanced our forms of communication. However, when the invention of the first telephone came about, it was only for the elite and required enormous and heavy equipment in order for it to be operable, thus many did not own one. They eventually increased in popularity, which led to a new innovation, the cellular phone, which came about in 1973. However, still only a handful of people had them. The first cell phone was of considerable size and was not available for most until around 1992. Today, there are close to 6.8 billion cell phone subscriptions currently in the world, and the majority of phones are considered smart phones, cell phones that integrate email, internet, and apps on a touch screen handheld device. Currently 78% of all American teens, ages 12 through 17, own a cell phone (Mary Madden 2). Cellphones usage has been connected with extreme health issues. As a matter of fact, high usage of cell phones, defined as 2,000 hours of usage spread across many years, has been shown to be linked with brain tumors in a Swedish study (Christian Nordqvist). According to Christian Nordqvist, a researcher, “85 of the 905 people who had a malignant tumor were high users of cell phones - they started using mobile phones a long
"How dangerous could a cell phone actually be?" That is one of the many questions a person will ask themselves throughout their lifetime. Cell phones cause many distractions to humans throughout the day. Many cell phone owners find themselves checking their phones for messages and notifications even when the phone did not vibrate or ring. The overuse of cell phones will have negative effects on the mental and physical health of its users, will cause driving distractions, and will have a negative impact on the communication skills of humans.
