Dna And The Double Helix

The Dna is made out of two long twisted strands called the double helix. Dna is short for deoxyribonucleic acid, which is a molecule that carries information into humans and all living organisms. The gene is a segment of Dna that is passed down from a parent to its children and confers a trait to the offspring. They determine weather you look like your mom, dad, or both of your parents. You either inherit their good genes or there not so good genes. (www.//geneed.nim.nih.gov/) The Dna was first observed by Swiss Biochemist Fedric Miescher in the late 1800’s. It wasn’t really observed due to most thinking it was to simple of a molecule to play such a big role in the human body or any other living body. They thought it was more likely for the proteins to carry out all this information because of its greater complexity and wider variety of forms. In 1953 James Watson, Francis Crick, Maurice Wilkins, and Rosalinda Franklin made the Dna became clear and reasonable. (www.Wikipedia.org) Geroge Mendel also known as “ Father of genetics” was the first to perform genetic experiments on plants that increased his interest in the genetic study. Genes are a segment of Dna that is passed down from the a parent to its offspring. Genes are packed and organised in units called chromosomes. Humans have 23 pairs of chromosomes in their bodies. Humans are estimated to have about 20,000 genes in each of their cells according to (www.//geneed.nlm.nih.gov/). Every person has two copies of each gene, one inherited from each parent. Genes are known as the blueprints in life because they tell your cells what to do and the time to do it. Each person has the same amount of sets of genes. What makes people ... ... middle of paper ... ... permanently alter the genetic make proof of all living organisms. As well as gene therapy that’s an experimental technique to treat diseases by altering the patient 's genetic material. This therapy works by introducing a healthy copy to the defective gene. This allows scientist to editing out the bad gene by replacing it for a good copy of the gene. In conclusion, the dna and the gene play a very big role in the human body, even though it might seem like just a small part of the human body or any living body. Dna isn’t just blood or genes don’t just make up your looks. There’s a lot of things that can go wrong if something isn’t normal. Dna is shaped like a twisted ladder which holds lots of information about what makes up a human 's body along with the gene which is why u either look like your mom or dad or any other family members related to your parents.
