1. The main assets of tourism in Djerba
Djerba is from one hour and a half drive from Tripoli, seven hours from Tunis, and three hours by air, from European countries, issuers of tourists.The island is close to the mainland for two sides: the first, in the west, between the Jorf and Ajim and the second, in the East, between Zarzis and El Kantara. Ajim and the Jorf are separated by a strait of 2 km, which is crossed by ferries.
From the Zarzis side, the island is connected to the mainland by a bridge of 7.5 km. Djerba is considered as a peninsula rather than an island; but the main flow of tourists arrive by air via the international airport of Djerba-Zarzis. The population is 132,000 inhabitants Djerba in 2002, 139,600 in 2004 over an area of 514km².The island is formed by three administrative delegations related to the governorate of Medenine, which are also three cities that have different functions.
