Children Need to be Encouraged
As we know, children spend about thirteen years of their childhood (if they graduate) in school around their peers and teachers. Most children go home to busy households where parents do not spend quality time, such as; listening, and disciplining them like they need to. So when these children go into the school the next day, they need and adult to pat them on the back, listen to them, discipline them, and encourage them to keep on trying. Children need to be encouraged so they will try harder. I want to there to give them that extra push that they deserve because many teachers gave me that encouragement to me. These days encourageable, energetic, and determined teachers become evermore important in today’s busy society.
Teaching children I would incorporate all of these philosophies such as; perennialism, progressivism, behaviorism, essentialism, existentialism, and social reconstructionism in my instructional curriculum. For example, including perennialism in which, it is necessary to teach elementary students morals, such as; sharing, not cheating, and even playing fair (like in sports). Progressivism will be used in my instruction because cooperative learning activities will take place. I will use reinforcement rewards with computers, stickers, and candy; which will display the philosophy of behaviorism reflected in my classroom. I will encourage free-will in my students by letting them make choices such as; the book they want to read or letting them decide whether or not they want to do extra credit; which would demonstrate a small part of the existentialism philosophy I support.
I believe it is also necessary to educate elementary students on other cultures so they will be aware of the similarities and differences compared to their own culture; which is how I will incorporate social reconstructionism into my classroom. However, the basis to hold everything into a functional curriculum I would use the essentialist philosophy; in which I would include all of the basic subjects in every week’s lesson plan to create a structural predictive atmosphere so the students know what is happening next.
Students need repetition.
With witchcraft infecting Salem, a countless number of residents are sentenced to death each day (AB). Eventually, Salem residents become fearful and start to question the moral and good of the court. The witchcraft expert, Reverend Hale, warns the court: “Excellency, I would postpone these hanging’s for a time” (Miller 1323). Hale is attempting to save the power of the court with this statement. Hale understands the court has made a blunder in hanging harmless people and is cautioning the court before the individuals of Salem proceed with a rebellion. When an innocent person is sentenced to death, it is in the good of people to sense the need to act for the sake of humanity. Next, the court learned of the rebellion that occurred in Andover. Hale attempts to back his claim with evidence by illustrating an example of a town that overthrew the court. Judge Danforth sharply retorts by stating, “…speak nothing of Andover” (Miller 1321). Danforth’s sharp and bold response proves he does not want Andover to be in discussion. Danforth is in denial that the law was overthrown in a nearby town and is trying to make it sound surreal. In this town Salem will be forever corrupted… with this so called justice. Those who you have know and we're friends are aren't what they are anymore. The judges have no reason. Justice has vanished. There is no god in this place anymore. The people believe nothing but a liar. It is not Elizabeth's fault. It was I, John Proctor who has betrayed her. In our time of uncertainty one of the most stable institutions is the school system for children. Thus, being a teacher and providing the most stable atmosphere along with providing the children with an education must be handled delicately. I believe a mixture of essentialism, progressivism, perennialism, behaviorism, and social reconstrctonism is essential in achieving those goals.
All of this and more is availed towards the supposition that recreational hunting is clearly an insalubrious hobby that lacks the property of logical reasoning. Besides it being a magnificently pathetic exhaustion of time resources for the purpose of fun, it ends with a casualty for every time it successfully transpires and while recreational hunting may preamble as a sophisticated sport, it is simply the legal killing and humiliation of an innocent creature. We have much to owe to the animals for the destruction we have caused and we make no apologies through constantly and continually killing them for fun, which in itself is just an abuse of power. It is horrific that hunters continue to proselytise this on people in future generations. The matter is thus not if recreational hunting is bad, it is, when it will end.
When I am teaching in a high school someday, what philosophies will be evident in my classroom? What methods will I use to reach my students? In my present education, I am beginning to think carefully and deeply about these issues. From what I have read and learned and from comparing various philosophies with each other, I have come to realize that I am a strong essentialist, and I also see many strong points in progressivism and behaviorism.
Technology can ameliorate the human condition or at the very least has the potential to do so. What the “human condition” is defined as is in its own self a philosophical problem. However, the best description is the adversity and biological events common to the entire human race. Because of cultural and geographic barriers it is difficult to decide what is common to the entire race, but some things that are generally thought of as being part of the human condition are: economic status, bare necessities to life, uncertainty, physiology, system – making, and perhaps knowing that death is imminent. To ameliorate a condition is to improve something, make it better, or more tolerable. Technology is more than capable of helping or at least making “more tolerable” some of the conditions listed that are common to the human race.
A branch of progressivism is logic and it is one that the students will come to know by the progressivist ideal that what is learned in the classroom has relevance to the real world. On top of everything else, teachers must possess an irrepressible yearning to motivate and educate children. Some children receive very little praise and motivation outside of the classroom environment. This puts a new responsibility on teachers to make sure that children (especially those who are underprivileged or disregarded by friends and family) get the attention and motivation they need in order to achieve. This can make all the difference in a child?s ability to do well in school.
Along side of Perennialism, I will use Behaviorism. This will allow me to set rules and regulations to better prepare my students. This will benefit them because they will always be aware of circumstances of their behavior.

My philosophy on teaching involves changing the world through my students. I want to enable my students, through education and motivation, to leave the world better than they have hound it. Like many social reconstructionists, I feel that we as teachers owe it to the future generations to instruct them how to handle the problems they will encounter in hopes that they will pass on fewer problems to their children. I will work every minute of everyday to ensure my students’ successful futures. I believe that students need a routine to help them think clearly and freely, such as that suggest by the Perennialist approach.
It is beneficial to teach real world lessons and inspire student discovery and problem solving. The curriculum focuses on the interests of the students and establishes a fine balance between valued content and interactive learning activities. The curriculum is important because it has the ability to reach students on different levels and what appeals to them. When students are interested in the subject matter, they want to learn and do not feel forced to learn. The instruction and delivery of this philosophy is very important because I believe active engagement, constructivism, and cooperative learning will enhance the students life skills and what they will carry with them in the future. As a Social Reconstructionist the teacher chooses his or her way of teaching with their students in mind. The role of the teacher is to create information and challenging lessons that will open their student’s eyes to social inequities. School is the ideal place to educate students on global problems; Such as: racism, sexism, global warming, homelessness, etc. Primary task of the teacher is to present daring lessons that will demand emotional responses from students, making them what to do something about it. For example, if a school is state funded it must teach the US constitution on Constitution day; how the lesson is taught is up to the teacher.

My philosophy of education is a combination of essentialism and progressivism . I feel that knowledge can be learned from a textbook, but I also want my students to use other means of knowledge. I fell in certain times, I should be the center of the classroom and other times, the students should be the center. Education is about the students and I am there to guide them through their journey. I think it's important to let children learn by exploring. By doing this, they choose what information is important and should be retained. When it comes to learning, students should always be in the center. The teachers are only there to mentor and improve upon a child's skills. In my mind progressivism with a mix of essentialism is the best philosophy for me to follow.
