The recruitment of minorities is a big issue that surrounds many law enforcement agencies today. Agencies lack an appropriate number of blacks and women in their departments. With so many issues surrounding law enforcement today, it is imperative that administrators increase recruitment efforts and ensure that all people are represented in law enforcement ranks. Today, there are a lack of a sufficient amount of blacks in law enforcement. “Blacks are among the minority groups that is under-represented in policing” (Kringen 16). “Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God” (Romans 13:1). This scripture proves that there is a need for police officers. However, God wants all of His children to be represented in community policing. In order for the community and police relations to become stronger, I believe that there needs to be more community and police events. When the people living in the communities know the people who are protecting them, then they are less likely to be afraid when approached by officers. Targeted attempts by local police departments to recruit and hire racial/ethnic minorities have prompted in twice as many minorities being hired as women (Peak 148). This evidence proves that although the number of blacks, Hispanics, and other minority groups have increased law enforcement, there are still a lack of a sufficient amount of women employed in the law enforcement. Today, women represent approximately 12 percent of sworn officers in local police agencies (Peak 148). While the representation of women officers is low in contrast with their overall quantity in the total community, the disparity is even more obvious in the management ranks (Peak 148). I believe that not only is it imperative that agencies seek to employ more women, but ensuring that they are fairly promoted into supervisor roles in organizations is just as important. This is because if women are not in leadership roles, then this could deter other potential candidates that are women from applying for positions in law enforcement. Men have been in leadership roles for a very long time throughout history. There was a time women could not even vote, yet along be in government positions.
