These challenges, if not detected and resolved via constructive leadership, along with failure to participate will lead to loss of innovative potential in diversity efforts and ultimately to failure in the undertakings of and organization. Law enforcement is a field highly sought often, yet one in which it can be difficult to land a job. By understanding some of the more advanced matters in police work, you can better appreciate what skills are needed and determine if it is a career you could actually excel in and envy. The criminal justice system and police organizations learned this a long time ago as society and the culture changed. There will still be biases, just like in any other organization. For most American Caucasian males, they never witnessed how bad it was in the past to serve and be part of the criminal justice system or the police organization. Today, having more minorities and women serving in the criminal justice system and police organizations is okay and more common than a long time ago. This was not true back then but as time changed so has the way the criminal justice system and police organizations are structured. Diversity is advantages in any job but especially in both the criminal justice system and the police organizations. Today, women accounted for 15.5% of the federal officers with arrests in 2008. About a third of federal officers are members of racial or ethnic minorities in 2008. This is also true that both minorities and women currently hold leadership positions. Some of these positions include: the DEA and Homeland Security (Johnston, 2015, p. 90). Minorities and women predominantly represent the victim services in areas like, California and Texas who have a huge population of minorities and women and especially in need of Spanish speakers (Johnston, 2015, p. 126). Across the criminal justice system and police organizations diversity is everywhere. Having diversity just opens up the doors for opportunity and allows everyone to learn from other individuals.
