The United States of America faces many challenges due to its immense diversity. Cultural, religious, and social-economic differences have helped advance the American Dream, yet at a cost (Baker). The United States is being torn down due to the corruption in our government, the media, and unemployment. The US Government is corrupt and out of touch with the needs of its own people. Former President Jimmy Carter said this about the US Government: “Now [the United States is] just an oligarchy, with unlimited political bribery being the essence of getting the nomination for president or to elect the president. And the same thing applies to governors and U.S. senators and congress members. … So now we’ve just seen a complete subversion of our political system as a payoff to major contributors …”. The founders of this country knew that free media would be worth little if no one was able to read it. Free media and public education go hand in hand when it comes to the government. Government officials control most of the media that is produced by paying with money or other types of payment. An example of free media being manipulated by government officials is the ongoing media coverage of Hurricane Maria's aftermath on Puerto Rico. Lately, the media and President Trump have covered up the severe damage that has been done to the island and the lack of support President Trump has given. The media is calling it a good-news story, while the governor of Puerto Rico is calling it a “people-dying story.” Media was not intended to be bought and sold by government officials and lawmakers.
