According to the book entitled, Diversity and Public Administration: Theory , Issues, and Perspectives by Mitchell F. Rice, he stated that many theorists had their concept of diversity (Rice, 2010). E. Cross and other theorist define diversity as a component focus on race, ethics, or gender categories. These three components are important because it is a way to identify and these categories stay the same. Another way diversity is defined is that theorists focus on difference of the group that were evaluated are income , region, and education background. Dow Corning defined is when organizations benefit from individuals’ experiences and talents that organizations can utilize. Another advantage of diverse work environment is it promotes personal growth. By employees being expose to new ideas, different culturally , and perspectives, it teaches employees to have a clear understand and gaining a positive point of view of different cultures. In the article entitled, “ Advantages and Disadvantages of Diversity In Workplace” by David Ingram, he stated employees given the opportunity to spend time with their co-workers will eliminate barriers like ethnocentrism. A great benefit of diversity in the workplace is encouraged employees to be open-minded (Ingram, 2015). Organizations also discovered diverse workplace can increase adaptability by providing solutions to service, sourcing, and allocation of resources. Global organizations can benefit from diverse workplace because the employees that speak different languages and understand different cultural can assist the company with conducting business internationally. According to the article entitled, “10 examples of gender bias you may encounter in the workplace”, by Jack Wallen, he stated gender bias is happens when gender is being discriminated against but it should not be acceptable in the workplace (Wallen,2015). Some of the gender differences are unequal pay. Most organizations pay individuals base on their gender instead of individuals’ job performance. Another gender differences is interview questions. When job recruiter interviews job applicants for certain position the questions are different for a male and female job applicant. For example questions for female , do you have children, are you planning on starting a family, or do you have adequate child care? These questions are illegal but job recruiters still ask these questions. Responsibilities of the job can be an issue in the workplace. Most organizations do not allow female do manual labor. It is optional for female to do manual labor. This was proven to be unfair for all races involve. Conversations can also be found gender bias as well. It is important for managers to have the same conversations that they have with female and male employees. If the manager discovered that they are using different tone of deliver the message to female employee, then the manager needs to adjust the tone of deliver the message to make it the same as the way deliver the message to their male employees.
