Disruptive children in the classroom impacts the entire school community not just the disruptive child themselves but also their peers and teachers. Disruptive children can be seen as a ‘road block to the building of a successful school and school district culture’ (Short and Greer 2002). There must be something triggering this type of disruptive behaviour, their dignity and self-value must be suffering to be acting in such a manner. Students realise their dignity in the relationships they form with their fellow peers and teachers. If a relationship is formed on the basis of destructive and negative behaviour from the disruptive child and tension from the teacher the dignity of the remaining students will be affected and their learning may be negatively influenced. Disruptive children in the classroom don’t allow for overall moral worthiness as there is a constant negative learning environment. The dignity of the teacher also suffers as they are having to deal with high stress situations and disappointment on a daily basis.
The common good of the classroom and the entire school is based upon the actions of its students and teachers. Everyone in the school community needs to contribute in order for common good to be seen and for everyone in the school to flourish. There are four general goals for student misbehavior, which include attention, power, revenge, and avoidance-of-failure. In the past, I have responded to all of these goals for misbehavior in the same or similar ways. I would give verbal warnings, and if that didn’t work I would raise my voice/yell, have the student sit in the hallway, send the student to the office, call home, and/or assign an after school detention. These consequences would usually temporarily stop a behavior, but they were not long-term solutions. I now know that there are very different strategies that should be used to deal with students who are misbehaving according to what their goal is.

They vary greatly, however one thing they do have in common is that they are not specific and therefore could lead to misunderstanding. Teachers need to report the issue to the school. If kids are taught at a young at right from wrong behavior it would probably help in the long term to situations leading to this. We learn a lot of unuseful skills at school such as calculus and eventually forget what we learn in a week or two being out of school. Through my experience dealing with unfocused and disruptive students I have learned the skills to deal with the student in my connections class. When many people come across this kind of situation they assume the student is purposely trying to be disruptive, and their first instinct is to address the students disruptiveness. To me this kind of situation means so much more than a student purposely being disruptive. As I have found through my work as a snowboard instructor more times than not the source of a student having trouble focusing or disrupting class is very underlying. This situation calls for an alternative and in-direct approach to find what is going on with the student.
