The play Romeo and Juliet written by William Shakespeare demonstrates a lot of different themes and messages, One very prominent theme throughout the play is disobedience to recognized authority inevitably brings retribution.
This theme shows up many times throughout the play. When romeo and juliet meet in the capulet party romeo had disobeyed his parents and all he got was tragedy in the end. Capulet is one of the first people to show the punishment of deficiency

Juliet thought that in order to stop the marriage to paris was by killing herself , So by marrying romeo she had already lost her cousin, has to marry another man or die because she doesn’t want to marry another man. In going to friar laurance she had gotten a potion that will make her appear dead , but that potion will lead to romeo finding out that she is dead and ultimately killing paris and himself which pushes juliet to kill herself. Romeo and Juliet aren’t the only ones who defy authority everyone in the street fights disobey the prince. The prince even stated “If ever you disturb our streets again,/Your lives shall pay the forfeit of the peace.”(Act 1, Scene 1, ll. 90-91). Tybalt definitely didn’t follow this rule because after capulet’s party Tybalt wanted to challenge romeo to a duel. Mercutio was also very defiant and it got him killed.
