"Language and Freedom," by Chomsky, basically follows many of Aristotle's guidelines for "observing ... the available means of persuasion." Aristotle believes that there are three different kinds of persuasion which are "furnished by the spoken word" or, in other words, used in speech. "The first kind depends on the personal character of the speaker; the second on putting the audience into a certain frame of mind; the third on the proof, or apparent proof, provided by the words of the speech itself." One goal of the speaker, according to Artistotle, is to prove himself as a "good man" because we, as listeners, are more willing to listen and agree with these "good men." Proving oneself as a "good man" should only be determined by what the speaker says during his speech, not what the speaker is previously known for. Also, Aristotle believes that a speaker should stir the emotions of his audience. An audience is more easily persuaded when it is "pleased and friendly" than when it is "pained and hostile." Lastly, the speech itself is a very important mode of persuasion, especially when a truth or "apparent truth" has been proved by using persuasive arguments. This, Aristotle believed, could be done by an individual who was capable of reasoning logically, understanding human character, and understanding human emotions. Chomsky's basic thesis, as far a I can tell, seems to be that one can learn a great deal about human nature, human potential, and the organization of society by studying in depth the structure of human language. Moreover, Chomsky heavy usage of Rosseau's and other people's writings seem to be a gimmick to garner support from his audience rather than convince them. Few, if any premises are introduced by Chomsky himself. Rather, he tends to borrow quotations from other sources. As a matter of fact, Chomsky quotes a total of 140 lines from other philosophers and scholars. Also, Chomsky tends to veer off on tangents whenever quoting someone, constantly forcing him to need to bring the listener back to his main subject. According to Aristotle, Chomsky should take a quotation or an idea that he is proposing and back it up with persuasive facts enabling the audience to draw their own logical conclusions based on the simple road which Chomsky has drawn. Unfortunately, Chomsky never drew a simple road.
In speechcraft, orators have reverted to three basic concepts to persuade an audience; ethics, logic or emotion. All views are powerful, the path of emotion, or pathos, has stirred men to riots, the path of ethics, or ethos, has reminded people of the basest of their knowing and the path of logic, or logos, has calmed the savagest of beasts to men. No matter how human's develop, they retain the remnants of their not so distant cousins, animals. He makes it easier to rationalize with his stance by his strategic use of sentence structure and word choice. When analyzing a past speech or interpreting a speech as it is given, upmost priority should be given to analytical tools for analyzing persuasive symbols and language. Whether the topic at hand is motivated by great emotions as it is here or not, the audience can easily be swayed in one direction surprisingly based only on universal comprehension.

Henry’s successful ability to persuade the audience was why his speech lives on as the epitome of persuasive writing. As seen throughout the oration, he creates an emotional bond with the crowd and isolates the key points that the audience should remember. His work exemplifies the everlasting importance of rhetoric. Aristotle, a Greek philosopher, who initially came up with the three different sections of rhetorical appeals and the act of persuasion. The three appeals include ethos, logos and pathos, all three different means of persuasion. Michael Moore’s, Capitalism: A Love Story will be used and examples will be taken from throughout the movie to analyze his rhetorical techniques when reaching out to the audience. Examples from “The Qualities of the Prince” by Niccoló Machiavelli will also be analyzed for the three appeals. Moore’s movie relates exactly to the rhetorical appeals because he is persuading the readers to realize all the corrupt and unjust happenings that are going on all around us without even knowing it. He is trying to explain to the readers that it is going on everywhere and steps to educate their selves to gain awareness in the corruption of America. His video shows many examples of the “behind the scenes” into the political world and cites all the events back to how and why it is ruining our country and what we can do to prevent and/or help the cause. Machiavelli’s piece also was a form of persuasion and rhetoric’s, using all three appeals as well. “The Qualities of the Prince” is a piece by Machiavelli in which he is trying to explain how a prince should act and what traits they should possess to be a successful leader. Machiavelli is using the rhetoric appeals and explaining his experiences through which he has learned what it takes to be a great prince.

In recent years, large numbers of immigrants have migrated into the USA from Mexico, Philippine, Vietnam, China, and other counties. As of 2009, immigrants comprised 12.5% (38.5 million) of the total U.S. population (Batalova and Aaron par. 7). In 2011, the U.S. Census Bureau found that 50.4% of children younger than the age of one were Hispanic, black, Asian American, or belonging to other minority groups (Morello and Ted par. 2), and more than 60 million people who are 5 years old and older spoke a language other than English at home (Camille 3). Faced with the cultural diversity brought by immigrants, many nativists worry that the United States will lose the English language as an important core of a common cultural unity. With the help of organizations such as U.S. English and ProEnglish, the English-only movement is experiencing its second resurgence since the 1980’s.
Freedom is having the right to own, act, think, and speak without any restrictions from the outside. Ever since the New World was discovered, people have been fighting for their independence till this day. People of other colors and race have been forced to do labor without their consent. Today, those same people have been blamed or accused of crimes that were not committed by them despite of being free. Freedom has different meanings and those meanings change overtime; however sometimes the significance of freedom does not change.
Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson teaches a valuable lesson. The book is about a young girl just entering high school. It shows all her struggles and achievements as a girl recovering from being raped at a party before entering high school. Because of the strength of the lesson Speak teaches, it should not be banned.
In the United States, the Anglo community is oppressing people of color because of their language, culture, and believes. For many years the Anglo has mistreated color races because they are different, causing anger and not understanding how it feels to be biracial. Latinos identities are robbed by not being able to speak Spanish in school. Therefore, the community in America needs to come together to fight against oppression and injustice caused by the difference in language and culture to improve equality for a group of people, who have lived marginalized throughout the years.
The 2007 movie Freedom Writers gives a voice of hope and peace in a fragile environment where hate and sorrow battle in the life of urban teenagers. This drama film narrates the true story of a new English teacher, Erin Growell, who is designated to work in an inner-city school full of students surround by poverty, violence and youth crime bands. During the beginning of the movie, the teacher struggles to survive her first days at this racially segregated school in which students prejudice her for being white and ignore her authority in the classroom. Noam Chomsky has written a lot of books there are hundreds and hundreds. He has done a lot to write about in his career. . His books are either written by himself, himself and others, and others that write about him. He has books on everything from terrorism to his theory. He was written his thoughts about September 11th and the government and politics in itself. He is a very involved man with this country and how politics and terrorism has changed it over time. He has been involved with these types of things since he was a young boy listening to the adults fight and argue about it on the streets of New York City.
The film Freedom Writers directed by Richard La Gravenese is an American film based on the story of a dedicated and idealistic teacher named Erin Gruwell, who inspires and teaches her class of belligerent students that there is hope for a life outside gang violence and death. Through unconventional teaching methods and devotion, Erin eventually teaches her pupils to appreciate and desire a proper education. The film itself inquiries into several concepts regarding significant and polemical matters, such as: acceptance, racial conflict, bravery, trust and respect. Perhaps one of the more concentrated concepts of the film, which is not listed above, is the importance and worth of education. This notion is distinctly displayed through the characters of Erin, Erin’s pupils, opposing teachers, Scott and numerous other characters in the film. It is also shown and developed through the usage of specific dialogue, environment, symbolism, and other film techniques.

National languages are not simply means of communication; rather they can also act as a symbolic representation of a national identity, providing insight into a nation’s perceived religious, ethnic and historical status. This essay will consider the role language plays in a national identity, questioning the power it holds and the implications it has on the notion of nationalism. Chomsky examines and explores the use of propaganda in the mass media. His focus remains on the “elite” as he would call them, or the corporations and politicians that control the mass media in our country. He speaks of how the U.S. government used propaganda in order to gain support for our country’s involvement in wars from Wilson’s presidency to Bush Sr., and now in our so-called “War on Terror” brought upon by George W. Bush. He explains how he believes this elite group of people control the minds of those that are less educated, and without an open minds. He believes that propaganda has been used through the mass media to guide this population towards supporting political interests.
Language is the basis of human communication. It is a cultural and social interaction, and the way language is used is influenced by the circumstances in which it takes place (Emmitt, 2010, p. 49; Green, 2006, p. 2). Children become aware that there are different types of language, including languages used at home, at childcare and at school, as they observe and participate in various language situations (Fellowes & Oakley, 2014, p. 39). Some of these languages may be unfamiliar, and children will need to learn the different roles and uses of language. The different roles of language in a child’s life are, therefore, part of their growing understanding of how to behave in society and in a particular context. As they experience different types and uses of language, children develop an understanding of how to use language appropriately for any given situation.
