Bento's repulsion to be religiously devoted bluntly reveals the blemishes in the practical result of religion hidden underneath seemingly deep devotion. The tragedy of Santiago Nasar explores the other defects of religion, one that is present in the Church itself, and how failure to uphold moral standards in Church upsets the community. Of course the authors do not write solely to condemn religion, they also bring forth the concept that people must adjust their attitudes toward religion and then irrational, old values set by the past Church.

Having faith is all one needs to get God’s love and redemption. Many of Paul’s points were relevant to social concerns and Christian faith in the 21st century. We have laws that lead us on the right path to not sin and therefore having faith for God to forgive us for our sins. The hypocritical part of Paul’s letter to the Galatians also reminded me of some 21st century concerns as well.
Some people self-deceive more than others and for different reasons than others, but regardless of the amount of deception or reasons for deceptions, we all deceive ourselves in way or another. While there are many different situations and circumstances that could be focused on, I chose to specifically focus on self-deception as it pertains to religion. Obviously, there will be a focus on how self-deception pertains to oneself, for how could we study self-deception without the focus of self. I will first review a few studies and articles that have already been done concerning this topic and then continue to summarize and explain how my observations or experiences compare to those found in the studies and articles. As we examine the findings in these studies and in my own observations I believe we will find that the reasons for self-deception will always vary, but also that in order to completely understand self-deception we must first recognize its existence in our own lives.
This might mean a dramatic change in the attitudes towards religion. Even though Ecclesiastes' ideas are theologically different from the rest of the Bible, they must still be regarded in order to explain meaning to different types of people. People found religion to be unuseful and uninteresting, leading to less people caring about religion. Ecclesiastes' perspectives allowed for new ideas to be brought to the table, clearly and logically answering life's tough questions in ways people can relate to.
I believe that it is arrogant and self-righteous to try and form your own creed and own ideas while ignoring the influence of others. Although self-reliance may have a place in our lives, it does not encompass every aspect of them. In religion, conforming to a creed and listening to what others have to say has helped me to open my mind, not close it as Emerson suggests. Emerson believed that to seek help and suggestions in your spiritual life was to pollute it. In "Self-Reliance," he writ... ... middle of paper ... ...listening to a preacher is to shut out new ideas that could be important.
One major cause for the spread of religion was of trade and missionaries. Though sometimes, one’s belief or ideology clashes with the other and there rises an effective and sometimes even a productive dialogue. This helps the members of the parties to come to a conclusion and change their thinking. But the opposing party must be mature enough to deal with the matter; otherwise the dialogue taking place may be pointless, thus giving the parties an opportunity to waste time.
As she begins to question her religion and its hypocrisy, Hannah develops a newfound faith in herself and humanity as she begins to think for herself for the first time. Saying one thing and doing another, religion is hypocrisy at its finest; at least politicians know they are scum. Many religious people love to tell others how to live their lives, yet fall short of living up to their own examples and expectations. Religion was supposed to teach us forgiveness and understanding, but for some reason many have taken on Saint Peter’s job themselves, as though their religion endows them with the divine right to pass judgment upon others. Many do not stop to consider another’s situation or perspective until faced with a similar predicament, as in the case of Hannah who, prior to her chroming, never could just... ... middle of paper ... ...egard ourselves as better than someone else.
My definition of religion has mostly stayed the same, but my perception of it has changed. At the beginning of the class, I assumed religion was something you believed based on your moral principles. I now believe that those moral principles are based on the religion that you believe in. Your religion changes your perception of the world and how to go about in it. Your religion tells you what is right and wrong in the world and answers all of the big questions one asks.

The Amish prove not to become part of the change, even though they suffered greatly for that decision, their inner courage and faith in God helped them to persevere. Kraybill assesses the Amish contributions to preserving religious liberty in the United States. Throughout the pages preceding this I have tried to give the most adequate examples and explanations to how I have interpreted this book, and what I found to be the main purpose of it.
Religion is a collection of organized beliefs and worldviews. The disrespect of religion is a serious issue facing in our time. Respect for a person religion is important since it is also respecting the person. Disrespect of religion is happening on various communication channels where people pass information unfairly judging various religions. People are also judging the entire religion due to the actions of one person, which is also unfair.
