Female nowadays face a lot of barriers. Discrimination exists in the society which impacts some aspects of everyday life like women being rejected in numerous opportunities. The idea of equality in gender and opportunity has been a discussion for a long time. Women have taken the role of being a housewife and a mother because it is viewed as their primary role, but women wanted to step out on their own and be independent. There is an arising number of women joining the workforce today. They are striving to get their equality and prove their place in the society because they are rarely recognized. Organizational factors such as the company policies affect women’s advancement in the workplace. Human resources practices have a weak structure in giving a flexible employment for women (Shin 1). Organizations set a standard for hiring and promotion policies which significantly impact the work and promotion of women in the workforce. Women perceive that they are not able to do well on the job like men so they are given fewer responsibilities that will result in promotional opportunities (Johns 1). Females were considered to have lack of leadership skills. Therefore, they are less likely to be devoted to taking over the responsibilities at work. Moreover, social factors such as media-driven perceptions which strengthen the gender conception as men being experts in the work field and women lack in the male-dominated jobs such as business (Shin 1). Media drives the view of people towards women which became a social norm. People believe that men are more superior than women because of the media, it becomes the state of mind without any proven information that men are more preferred than women. Since media is such a significant influence on people, it is capable of making things believable without any proof. There are differences in how men and women communicate and connect with other people because women are viewed to be less negotiable and have lower ambitions in their careers (Johns 6). Based on the study, women are seen to be less marketable which shows that men are more confident in representing their idea in the most definite way.
