The term corporate social responsibility (CSR) first appeared in 1960s before that corporations main and only concern was to gain maximum profit , The World Business Council for Sustainable Development in its publication Making Good Business Sense by Lord Holme and Richard Watts, used the following definition for corporate social responsibility .
“Corporate Social Responsibility is the continuing commitment by business to behave ethically and contribute to economic development while improving the quality of life of the workforce and their families as well as of the local community and society at large”.

With competition and globalization companies are facing more challenges than before , customers make their decisions based on several factors and expect good quality on products and services , customers also choose to buy products or services positively impacting their community or environment . there for it is important to include CSR in your company’s strategic plan .
Some benefits of applying CSR in your organization :
• Creating Better Public Image ; both customers and consumers feel good buying from corporations helping the community and trying to preserve earth’s resources. Meaning that consumers prefer companies or corporations involved in CSR than others who are not .
• Getting more media coverage ; take CSR communication seriously and engage in PR. Form relations with media – and they’ll be more inclined to tell your stories. The better the stories -i.e. the more people benefit from your programs or initiatives – the better the media coverage.
