Many of us in the world today use some sort of modern technology to enhance the ability of communication and commuting. Cellphones are becoming an extremely popular electronic device due to their portability. They are also becoming more technologically advanced; most can take and send pictures and videos and connect to the internet for web surfing. In an effort to examine the broader impact of mobile devices on people’s lives, the question is, do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages? I think not. With this in mind, I must say, no one is curious to explore and gain first-hand information since search engines make it readily available. Louv reiterated Reed’s notion that, “‘primary experience’ – that which we can see, feel, taste, hear, or smell for ourselves.” We depend on other peoples’ sources and knowledge and uses them as our own, which can be detrimental since others’ experiences differ from ours. Notably college students are especially technologically skilled. They can text, surf the net and engage in social media. As a result, students spend so much time surfing the internet instead of surfing their textbooks, causing them to flunk out. Cellphones are used negatively, when used to send sexual messages or pictures to another person’s cell phone. Sexting is a major issue that one may consider.
