It is known by many that in Philadelphia it is illegal to ride a dirt bike or an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) on any street, sidewalk, or pathway in the city. Even though these dangerous vehicles are prohibited, people still tend to ignore the fact that their dangerous for others and themselves in most situations. Currently, the main factors being considered are the conflict connected with these vehicles and the danger they bring to pedestrians and some of the solutions being considered by the authorities, such as better trained officers and community reporting awareness. One important issue to be address is for example when kids getting out of school and dirt bikes are at large in the city if they’re not obeying the laws from the start what causes to multiple members of the community to conclude and doubt of drivers safety. The community worries about the innocent children and other members who may lack of the capability of being able to avoid an accident with neglectful drive who is only worried about having fun and making sure they don't get caught. They are asking to provide a brief description of the dirt bike or ATV and its operator. The reason for it is because as stated by the Philly Police blog “understand that these bikes and ATVs are moving vehicles and are often not in the area when an officer responds”. Officers have become trained to evaluate the danger in trying to pursue or stop these vehicles and what it will do to the public before attempting to pull it over. People must understand that although the citizens of the community might be outraged that pursuing these vehicles creates a dangerous situation for any pedestrian roaming the streets and can potentially make the situation much worse. Capt. Frank Vanore, who heads the 25th Police District, said police officers are instructed not to pursue the riders. Still, he has heard anger of community members desperately asking the riders to be taken off the streets. People should be aware and alert for these vehicles and make every attempt to stay out of the way of them to avoid any kind of dangerous altercation. You can also help the police if you can provide information about who has this vehicle, where it is stored, or if it is stolen.
