Technology has dramatically changed the way we live our lives. Advances have made our lives easier, safer, and quicker. Our world is buzzing with connectivity. We can have a conversation face to face from across the country with the touch of a button. We’ve created robots that can diffuse a bomb, execute a complex high-risk surgery, and even explore outer space. Pace makers save lives every day by regulating a person’s heartbeat. Smoke detectors alert us to fires, and carbon monoxide detectors save us from breathing toxic fumes. The ways technology and digital advances have changed our lives is countless.
Technology has become so embedded in our daily lives, almost everything we do involves it. Because of technology, cars can alert you when you start to drift into another lane or stop the car to prevent an accident. You can start your car with a remote and even turn on the heat so it’s warm before you get in. Some can even parallel park, hands free. Our homes are wired from top to bottom. Well, not technically wired as many things connect via wireless connections. Our refrigerators can make a grocery list based on its contents and send it to your cell phone. You can control your thermostat, security system, and even your garage door from work. Technology is every all around us.
With all these advance, we’re constantly connected. You can post a picture on Instagram, update your status on Facebook, and re-tweet an inspirational quote all within seconds. Social media seems to encourage us ...

...attending school to shopping can be done on the internet. Many employers only accept applications online. Some even conduct their interviews over the phone. Many people telecommute instead of going into the office. They never have to get dressed or leave the house to make a living. There is less and less face to face interaction in today’s world. Family time is spent playing on electronic devices or watching TV. It’s rare to hear that someone spent the day at the park with their kids, or that their kids went out and played tag with the neighborhood kids. These technological advances have changed our lives in many positive ways, but at what cost to our humanity? How much more desensitized can we become to the very things that make us human?
