Some are against reform that, “private citizens who own guns are constantly told by gun-control advocates that only fully trained government agents should be allowed to possess and use guns” (Krey 41). The pro gun reform advocates see this because of the number of shootings that have happened in the past years. They also attribute our violent culture to one of the reasons the shooting rates have gun up. The pro gun reform advocates have used different outlets throughout the media to get their message out and try to start a movement, in which they are trying to get the public to have the same view point as them. This goes for the pro gun reform and anti gun reform groups.
Gun Control War We are no stranger to gun control debate and controversy here in the U.S. We hear of gun deaths, mass and school shootings on the news on a daily basis. Is it safe to say that the U.S. needs permanent gun control laws to protect its citizens or would it be in violation the constitution? The second amendment was written by our founding fathers back in 1791 in a day where it was common for any citizen to own a weapon. Many times we tend to misinterpret our rights as well as we do with gun control laws. As George Washington once said “A free people ought not only to be armed, but disciplined”.
Although, on almost a daily basis, there seems to be news stories about shootings and killing’s throughout America by criminals and people with mental issues, it seems that only law abiding gun owners are going to suffer the most by any new gun restricting laws that may be passed by lawmakers in the United States. Excessive gun control would take away the rights of law abiding citizens to protect themselves and their property. It could also effect the recreational use of guns, and would not keep guns from criminals. Taking guns away from people would make it harder for them to protect themselves and their property. If an intruder was to come into a person’s home, and if guns were outlawed due to excessive gun control, then that person would have to protect themselves by some other means.
Does Obama Really Want to Take Our Guns? Our country has always believed in a citizens right to own a gun. It is a principle that is so important to our country, that it is listed as the second of twenty-seven constitutional amendments. Gun control is a subject of great controversy that carries many true and false claims. Many people believe our second amendment rights are being attacked, and that the government wants to take our guns away.
George Washington once said, “Firearms stand next in importance to the constitution itself. They are the American people 's liberty teeth and keystone under independence …”. In the United States, Gun violence has become a reoccurring issue impacting the nation immensely. As we look into the past ten years, school shooting and public shootings have played out in the media stirring up a debate on gun violence. Because of these ongoing evil attacks, firearms are seen as the killer rather than the person who is firing the gun.
Since it is a national issue, this essay will focus on gun control from the perspective of a gun advocate and provide evidence as to why gun ownership must be preserved and enforced. If gun control measures become too severe, civilians would be disarmed against criminals who would cause them harm, as the civilian population would have no way to defend themselves. Since gun control is a largely controversial issue, there are many political individuals and groups on both sides of the issue that struggle to either preserve gun ownership or increase regulations on firearms. Although the debate still rages on about gun control, what remains important is that the right of the people to bear arms to be preserved, as a society with a disarmed people will be at the mercy of the criminals, and possible oppressive government, who will use force against those who can't defend themselves.
What is gun control? Gun control is also known as the firearms regulations which also refers to laws or policies that regulate the manufacture, sale, transfer, possession, modification, or use of firearms. Tragedies like the Sandy Hook shooting and the Columbine massacre, where armed individuals took the life of innocent civilians mercilessly, have shaken our communities and forced us to take a different approach when it comes to gun safety. Gun control has been the topic of many heated debated in recent years. We have, as a nation, become so accustomed to firearms in our everyday lives whether for protection, hunting, or self-defense, that we have forgotten that firearms are dangerous and deadly weapons. The second amendment of the Constitution grants all individuals the right to bear arm; however, this amendment continues to be used and abused by individuals who chose to interpret it differently than it was originally intended. It is our duty, as citizens of this great nation, to open our eyes wide and realize that this problem is not going to fix itself.
Gun laws and gun owner regulations are absurd and mask the problem; guns are not the real issue. Guns will still be prominent regardless of whether or not the government tries to take them. Some countries with the most strict gun policies, where it is basically impossible to legally own a gun, have the highest shootings statistics. Instead of outlawing guns, people should run more strict background and mental health checks on the people buying the guns. Piers Morgan, a British journalist with his own show on CNN, argued for more gun control in the country on his last show airing.
