Marriage is a celebration that has varied practices and traditions amongst cultures all across the globe. Religions like Hinduism, Romani, Taoism and Mormonism all have similarities when joining two people together. Like the way the couples meet and the certain traditions that need occur during the wedding ceremonies. But they also have immense difference, like the way they celebrate weddings and what marriage symbolizes, why they get married. In Hinduism the typical way of finding a partner is through arranged marriages. An arranged marriage is a marriage planned and agreed to by the families or parents of the bride or groom, who usually have little or no say in the matter themselves. There are two types of arranged marriages; traditional and forced. A traditional arranged marriage is when the parents choose their son or daughters future spouse. If either the son or daughter refuses the choice, the parents tend to respect their wishes, and will find someone else. In a forced arranged marriage, the parents do not allow the future newlyweds to have any say in their choice of spouse. These marriages are usually arranged by matchmakers, who are normally a family friend or distant relative. As a scout and negotiator, a family sends the matchmaker into the community to seek possible matches. Once a match is found, the matchmaker notifies his or her clients and arranges communication through them. Specifically it will discuss whether Islamic marriage is better or worse for women than Christian marriage. After study of these two religions, it becomes quite clear Islamic marriage is much worse for women than Christian marriage. The idea of matrimony revolves around the concept of one loving another so deeply that they want to join together and share a life together. The best description for marriage encompasses words like; commitment, unconditional love, and pure beauty from within one's heart. There is no possible way to measure the validity or trueness of these emotions. When a couple decides to wed, they are making the ultimate commitment to each other. Ultimately, the commitment should be a decision made by the couple and no one else. Many other countries practice arranged marriage, which couples are forced by their family to marry. In America, we are blessed with the freedom to choose who we marry. You may think that you have that right, but you actually do not!
“Arranging a Marriage in India” by Serena Nanda is a well written, informative article aimed at sharing the view of the Indian culture on arranged marriages and also showing how much effort is put into the process of arranging a marriage. Our own culture has evolved into accepting the fact that we are all independent individuals who could not imagine having someone else make such a significant decision for us. Serena Nanda does an excellent job of using her sources within the society as evidence of the acceptance of the arranged marriage aspect of their culture.
The Indians practice of arranged marriages is to protect the strengths of their families. They too look to keep the beliefs and cultures strong within their dynasty. Families search out and find perspective brides and grooms for their sons and daughters. This allows for their sons and daughters to be more focused on school and work not really much different then marrying someone you already know. We must also look at the Hindus in southern India and their consanguinity, although there uncle-niece marriages were the socially preferred. Medical problems existed strong in these unions; the DNA was just to close causing birth defects to multiply in the offspring.

Regardless of one's religious denomination, a person's religion comprises the framework of meaning and the source of his or her values. When two people marry they bring with them their strengths and weaknesses, hopes and fears, and their religious dimension that plays a significant role in their relationship, decisions and responses to each other. For this reason, many issues and challenges arise within interfaith marriages that require accommodations by each person including how the couple will deal with their religious difference, what religion they will teach to their children, and how their respective religious communities will respond to interfaith marriages. No two couples manage the adjustments that need to be made within an interfaith marriage in the same way. This is because there is no standard or typical Christian, Hindu, Buddhist or Muslim. Their knowledge, commitment, practice and attachment to the respective religious traditions, and their knowledge of, attitude and affinity toward the religious tradition of their spouses are so different that no two couples have the same experience.
