Outline of Term Paper
(One side opinion)
Topic: Face to face versus online learning
1. INTRODUCTION
a) Definition
i) Online learning is a method of study for an internationally recognised qualification without attending classes in campus. ii) Traditional education is defined as teacher-centered delivery of instruction to classes of students who are the receivers of information (Julie Alice Huson, 2011) iii) Online learning shares a lot of similarities with “analogue” learning and exhibits many unique qualities that learners and instructors must navigate to be successful. (Andrew Heikkila, 2017)
b) Development of learning
i) Education is becoming more and more important in human life that has shaped many generations for years until present.

It has increased concern for the higher education institutions. (Dr. Steven Stack, 2015)
c) Position on the stand: We strongly agree with the statement that said face-to-face learning is better than online learning
d) Thesis statement: This paper will cover the argument about the ways of learning is better between online learning and face-to-face learning.
2. BODY
a) Introduction
i) Online learning has a greatest influence in education. (Stephanie Norman, 2016)
• An enormous change in the system thus provides great opportunities for everyone who wants to learn something. (Stephanie Norman, 2016)
• Online learning not only learns theory and concept, but also improves learning via web-based tools and technologies in online education.
• The revolutionary changes in the nature of higher education from face-to-face courses to online and hybrid courses using technology devices. (Starr Roxanne Hiltz et al., 2005)
b) Supporting points and position on the traditional learning
i) First supporting point: Face-to-face learning promotes verbal communication and interaction between peers and instructor. (Shanna Smith Jaggers,

• Online learning allows students to access anytime and anywhere they wish in their own pace (Ningning Shi, et al 2011)
• However, self-pace needs a lot of dedication and hard work.
• In traditional classroom, direct learning and taking notes from lectures only compared to online classes that requires more reading and completing more assignments.
• Cooperative activities, group work and immediate replies to questions are important as some students need constant reassurance whether they on the right track to keep them moving. (Carmen Paduraru, 2010) ii) Second opposing point: Online learning not really helps in developing a better time management.
• Some students who have low self- disciplined and motivation tends to have a lower concentration during online lectures
• Lack of supervision which finally leads to procrastination.
• Students nowadays are easily distracted by social media and cellphones and they may spend time chatting, updating own news feed and following someone on Instagram, Facebook or
Yet one cannot praise the advantages without taking a look at the possible limitations of Web-based delivery. The authors, (Sunal et al., 2003) stated that Web-based students indicated dissatisfaction with the number of opportunities for interaction with the instructor and other students. (Simonson et al., 2003) concluded that access to technology, paradigm shifts for instructors, bandwidth limitations, and training and technical assistance may hinder course delivery. They (Simonson et al., 2003) reported too, that online courses require students to be motivated, self directed and responsible for their success. Another possible disadvantage with Web-based courses is the potential loss of social relationships and sense of community that exists in traditional face-to-face courses (Hiltz, 1998).
Online courses require self-motivation and discipline in order to be successful. The true benefits of online courses are that you have the flexibility to work them in your life schedule and can take them at your own pace within reason. Therefore from my personal experience I highly support online learning over brick and mortar traditional learning. When I started taking online classes it was because I could not fit a fulltime class load into my fulltime working schedule. It is the convenience of online cl...
An area of great contrast between the two forms of education regards the student experience. For example, students may enjoy taking tests or listening to lectures in the comfort of their own home. However, this poses a major disadvantage of not being able to ask questions as they naturally arise. An online student may have to wait around for their instructor to respond to an email, whereas being present in a classroom permits questions to be asked and answered on the spot. Another advantage of attending a brick-and-mortar college is having access to classmates for study groups or help with homework. After reading several students opinions on their online classes, I have come to realize the overall expe...
The Internet helps us to find the current news and information just in a few seconds. Because of the Internet, the educational institution created a new method to learn: via the web. Online education is a little bit different from the traditional education because students and teachers do not meet face-to-face which makes the teachers’ teaching method is mostly by using video. Although online learning is different, students still gain knowledge from it. With the knowledge they learned, they are up-to-date to the current information around the world (Tucker, 2014). The knowledge they have can also help students to finish their formal education and earn a degree after completing their online
In the world of education, modern society and technology have revamped our ideas of what might be considered a traditional way of gaining education. Face-to-face courses and online courses are both similar and different in relation to the content of courses, student-professor and peer relationships, class participation/interaction and effective methods of both teaching and learning. Nelson Mandela said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” This still is, and always will be an accurate statement because it does not matter how your education is obtained; in the end, knowledge is power.
Even though convenience and flexibility have great appeal, online classes can have a downside because they are not for everyone. Students that procrastinate or require some kind of external motivator will have trouble with the flexibility of online classes. In fact, in 2003 U.S. Department of Education discovered that misconceptions of the learner’s responsibilities caused higher dropout rates among students taking online classes. These misconceptions included lack of time management and self-motivation (Wojciechowski). Although these factors affect the flexibility and success of an online class, students can develop good study...

With online education, the instructor delivers the content, but students must take greater initiative to access, learn, and understand the material. In addition, students have to actively seek help. Online students may lack the motivation to learn independently. Students, especially those new to higher education, may become easily discouraged when faced with particular academic challenges and drop out. Online education makes it harder to maximize student learning outcomes because the resources that foster learning in face-to-face environments are substantially diminished. In other words, online instruction may not provide sufficient student support. In face-to-face classes, students have their classmates, learning centers on campus, professors ' office hours, tutors, and teaching assistants to support and help them with their various learning needs. These resources guide them, clarify and reinforce the material, and allow them to succeed in their
Some students within society need to have online learning to complete college degrees due to their lifestyles. While it
Online and traditional classes consist of different requirements for students to be mindful of while making the choice to enroll. At the beginning of the course, both classes provide students with a syllabus stating the expectations and the required procedures to follow in order to succeed. Similarly, both online and traditional courses offer an educational program in regards to earning a degree. No matter what degree the student wishes to pursue, more than likely an online alternative
Online education is a booming trend in the education world. It is something different than the traditional classroom. It is allowing student around the world the opportunity to get an education. Online education allows student to have a more proficient and cheaper way of learning. Having multiple ways to give a student an education allows all learning types to find their own way of learning. Education changes lives but it can be difficult for students to get to a classroom to sit through an hour class 4 times a week, this can be for many different reasons. There are many doubts about online education, but this a new world without borders it is a new opportunity for people from all over the world to get an education.

For a while now, a certain method of teaching has become popular in many colleges across the nation: online education. Online education is learning with the assistance of the Internet and a personal computer in place of attending a classroom with other students. Many online classes offer students the opportunity to learn while not having to leave the comfort of their home. Colleges in America are offering more and more courses online as an alternative to the traditional way of learning in a classroom. However, many disagree with the notion of providing online classes to students.
While certain aspects of learning in an online environment and learning face-to-face are similar, they also are remarkably different. I am more familiar with a face-to-face learning environment in which I physically attend class. Despite this, an online learning environment is something I am acclimating to. At times I miss the traditional approach, but also am beginning to enjoy the regimented flexibility it affords.
There are many advantages to online learning, it affects the way people can learn. According to “Effects of Technology on Classrooms and Students”, “students have a greater willingness to write or work on computational skills”. “They say student like the immediate results of having online learning.” Another advantage is that students can learn at their own pace. With learning at their own pace they will be able to actually know the information well. If, they are in a regular classroom setting they may no...
