In the article “Did My Car Join Al Qaeda?”, Woody Hochswender defends owning an SUV against those who are oppose them. Since SUVs have a low gas mileage, they have been linked to financing terrorists. Hochswender believes this idea is outrageous and uses persuasive methods to defend his case. Hochswender attempts to get others to see his view and how it is acceptable to own an SUV. The appeals of logos, pathos, and ethos are found throughout his argument. He makes a logos appeal by having reasons to back up every claim he makes. For example, he argues that in unsafe terrain and weather, SUVs “allow workers to get to and from their jobs, and parents to transport their children safely to school, sporting events, ballet classes and the rest”
