How Would You...?

If you were a psychologist, how would you use Diana Baumrind's model on discipline styles to design a parent education class that teaches effective skills for interacting with young children?

After reading through the parental styles of the Diana Baumrind’s model, I believe that best kind of parenting style would be the Authoritative parenting style and how this could be effective in regards to teaching skills on how to interact with young children.

According to the textbook, it mentions how, “Authoritative parenting encouraging children to be independent by still placing limits and controls their actions, parents are warm and nurturing towards the child and, parents show pleasure and support in response to child’s constructive behavior by children and also how parents expect mature, independent and age-appropriate behaviors by children” (Chapter 10, pg. 291). The textbook also mentions how, “Children whose parents are authoritative are often cheerful, self-controlling, self-reliant, and achievement-oriented, tend to maintain friendly relations with adults, peers and cope well with stress” (Chapter 10, …show more content…

The textbook also mentions how, “adolescents who experience neglect or abuse as a child have a higher chance by engaging in violent relationships, risky sexual behavior, delinquency, and substance abuse” (Chapter 10, pg. 295).
