The profession I have chosen is diagnostic medical sonography. Sonography is an allied health profession providing patient services using medical ultrasound, or high-frequency sound waves that produce images of internal structures. A sonographer works under the supervision of a physician responsible for the use and interpretation of ultrasound procedures, the sonographer helps gather sonographic data to diagnose a variety of conditions and diseases, as well as monitor fetal development. (caahep.org) This is a profession that I am seeking education and program certification in through a two-year program.

Technical skills and eye-hand coordination are a few more skills that a sonographer should hold. (ultrasoundschoolinfo) Sonography is based on the use of technology and technology is always growing and advancing. A sonographer must be able to keep up with the changes and continue to grow with the use of the equipment. Detail oriented is also a key skill to hold. (ultrasoundschoolinfo) While doing an ultrasound a sonographer must be able to notice the small or otherwise abnormal readings. As most health professions a sonographer needs physical strength. One way is to use the tools provided by the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography websites. The SDMS provides opportunities to earn and offer credits for continuing medical education or CME. They also offer educational resources for the sonography community. (sdms.org) Other free continuing education classes can be provided by the International Center for Postgraduate Medical Education, myCME, Pegasus Lectures, Society for vascular Ultrasound, Sonoworld, and Gulfcoast Ultrasound Institute. There are also many CME’s that are provided for a small fee.
