Diagnostic Imaging: Personal Statement

I am a patient and hard working person who enjoys helping people. My ambition to pursue a degree in Diagnostic Imaging developed when I was working at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow. During these six months of a temporary position, I was a support worker who helped patients to attend their scheduled medical examinations. Even though I was not performing a technical job, this experience installed me with a positive impression towards my decision to follow a career in Radiography. I was further motivated when I saw radiographers worked at Imaging Department especially when they were using of sophisticated instrument such as X-ray, MRI, CT and Ultrasound scanners to produce images to diagnose diseases. I attended the course in 2015 and successfully I passed my first year studies with an award of a Certificate of Higher Education in Biological Sciences with merit. In the end of my first year, I realised that my enthusiasm for the Biomedical Science degree was entirely diminished. Conversely, my immense inspiration to build a career in Diagnostic Imaging was enormously intensified. In response, I contacted the Glasgow Caledonian University asking for a possible direct transfer to continue with my studies in Diagnostic Imaging but it was not possible. Therefore, I had to take a difficult decision to withdraw from my course. Moreover, during my studies at the University of Strathclyde, I found that human anatomy and physiology were subjects that grabbed my attention and hence it was vastly contributed to change my career path to Radiography. In addition, the practical sessions of animal dissections and the lectures which described the implications of radiographic images to reveal diseases in the body are skills that gave me a positive image of the works in this career and responsibilities
