I have learned that people gravitate toward leaders who show unrequited respect to those they serve. Because I believe that all people are equally human, people never have to worry about facing disrespect from me. Understanding respect helps me remember that a state of leadership is a position of service as opposed to authority; this plays a vital role in my capability to bring the best out of people by adding significant value to my words when I am leading them. Respect also creates a very clear channel for effective communication, especially among people with contrasting viewpoints. I know that upon arriving in college, I will be exposed to a vast array of beliefs and perspectives, and a many of such will be different from mine. Respect empowers me to make room for clear and effective communication with people from all sorts of backgrounds. respect lays an unwavering foundation of trust among people, and I believe trust will be essential to prosperous relationships even beyond my time in
Proper respect for others begins by a person respecting their self. Respect is developed by expressing honor, leadership, value, and trust in a person. If everyone respects everyone someday, the world will become a seventh heaven. Respect was, is, and always will be a positive attribute for everyone to strive for in their lives.
Perseverance, dedication, and discipline, these are the qualities that have been instilled in me throughout my training. My sport requires failing repeatedly until consistency is found in perfection. Therefore, perseverance proved crucial as I attempted skill progressions and difficult routines. Dedication was essential whenever I watched others miss practice for social events. I didn’t recognize the immediate benefits of my deep rooted commitment until months and years later; now I have applied this devotion to every aspect of my life.
In the story Fly Away Home by Eve Bunting, Andrew shows us that optimism helps make bad situations better by looking on the bright side. Not only should you treat people the way they should be treated, you must make sure that you treat you subordinates with the utmost respect. Leaders must show respect by seeking to understand other people’s background, see things from their perspectives and appreciate what is important to them. Everyone should be treated with respect and dignity, no matter what their race, gender, creed, religion and or beliefs are. A leader’s willingness to tolerate discrimination or harassment on any basis, or failure to cultivate a climate of respect will lower trust and erode the team’s unit cohesion. Next will be integrity.
I can look forward to it and manage my expectations but happens when something gets in the way? I will never have the answer to “What is the meaning of life?”—but I will have the ability to try. There is a reason why I’m always soul searching to become a better me. It’s because the best me hasn’t happened yet. I will never be the best version of myself but I am always a work in progress trying to reach the ultimate goal. Life isn’t about being successful and leaving your “mark on the world.” Maybe life is about leaving a shadow so one can follow in. Burdens are a part of everyday life. They help to mold us into the people we need to be and, if we can learn to use burdens for our own uses, we can become the person we want to be. Our ability as a person is directly attributed to our risk taking factor, which in turn, also correlates with burdens. When a person takes a risk, they allow themselves to experience at least some of the events they are throwing themselves into. To truly be done with that particular time and event they need to fully understand and immerse themselves in the event so they may live past it and not behind
