Determination of a Rate Equation
Rate equation has the form rate = k [A]x[B]y which shows how the rate of a chemical reaction depends on the concentration of the reactants
(A&B) and the rate constant k. The rate equation normally indicates what species are involved in the rate-determining step and how many species are involved.
A rate equation is used to describe how the concentration of a product increases or the concentration of the reactants decreases with time, the equation also indicates how the concentration of one or more reactants directly affects the rate. Occasionally it can even be the concentration of a product that affects the rate. In general the rate equation for the reaction: A + B C + D
Is found by experiment to follow simple kinetics with the rate equation being written as:
Rate = k [A]x[B]y
k = rate constant, x = order with respect to [A], y = order with respect with [B].
There are three orders of reactions, zero order, first order and second order.
Zero order = the rate does not depend upon the concentration of the reactant. The rate of reaction is fixed. Doubling or tripling the concentration of the reactant makes no difference to the rate. Thus:
Rate of reaction = k or rate of reaction = k[A]0.
First order = the rate of reaction depends directly upon the concentration of the reactant. If the concentration of the reactant is doubled, the rate doubles, thus:
Rate of reaction = k[A] or rate of reaction = k[A]1
Second order = the rate of reaction depends directly upon the square of the concentration of the reactants. If its concentration is doubled, its rate of reaction quadruples. Thus:
Rate of reaction = k[A]2
The graph below shows zero, first and second order reactions and how changes in the co...

Also when doing the experiment the temperature was not always constant in the surroundings and in the solution. This could have affected the rate of reaction by some reactions happening faster and some slower than the others. To improve this i could make sure all the solutions were at the same temperature before starting the reaction. This would then ensure that the test was being conducted fairly and that way i could get more accurate results.
To improve the experiment and minimise errors I can try and devise a better method that would ensure that all of the above errors were reduced. When measuring out my solutions I was taking readings from below the meniscus, this reduced the numbers of errors in my results.

Richard Bulliet and Ira M. Lapidus are both exceptional historians on the Subject of Islam. Both historians have written scholarly works on the matter. Richard Bulliets book Islam: the view from the edge attempts to examine the spread of Islam, from the view point of the edge, rather than from the center. Bulliets describes the "the view from the edge is very much the story of when, how, and why". Bulliets main objective is to enage the reader in a story that develops the edge, because, in truth, the edge is needed, because, in truth the edge ultimetely creates the center". The "edge" stands for the smaller communities and diversity that contributed to the beliefs of the Islam. While the "center" is focused on imperial dyansties and poltical instutions taking place within Mecca and Medina. Ira Lapidus book Islamic socities to the ninettenth century: a global history, try answer a vairiety of questions. For instance, what Islam, what are its vaules, and how did so many peoples, so different and dispersed, beome Muslims?" In addtion the book answers the "what does...
I was shy because I didn’t know anybody. Now I’ve gotten to know the people in my classes, and I’ve learned that they can help me just as I can help them. Because I was homeschooled, I was a little laid back on when to turn in assignments, I just turned them in when I felt like it. At college, I have changed the way I turn in assignments. I have learned that if I turn in my assignments early or on time I have a better chance of getting a higher grade. I have also changed in the way I manage my time, before I started college I would just get out of bed whenever I felt like it. Now I set alarms and different times on when I need to get something

Ever since I was in middle school, people always told me that I’m quiet and shy. Having said that, I never felt comfortable communicating with people I didn't know that well. That also includes speaking or presenting in front of a class. According to my family and friends, I’m the complete opposite, because they claim that I’m talkative. Being shy and nervous did affect my schoolwork. I wouldn’t raise my hand in class that often, because I didn’t feel comfortable enough. When I was in 6th grade, my teacher would always call up students to share something they liked about a story they read. When the teacher called out my name, my heart started pounding, my hands were shaking and my mind went completely blank. I was so nervous to the point where I felt like I was going to pass out any moment. That’s when I asked the teacher if I could excuse myself to go to the bathroom. She didn’t mind that request so I tried to calm myself down by washing my face and breathing. After class, my teacher and I discussed my inability to present in front of a class. She was obliging, because she agreed to help me overcome being shy and to help boost my self-confidence. Shyness and nervousness also stopped me from participating in activities and obtaining opportunities. In 10th grade, my Chemistry teacher suggested a film festival, because she was aware that I loved filmmaking. At first, I considered the idea, because I’ve never done anything like it before. Having thought about it, I then realized that I was going to have my movie up on a full screen where
On September 16, 1810 Miguel Hidalgo, a rebel priest, in the town of Dolores told his flock that the time had come to take arms against the Spanish. Within minutes, he had a tattered yet determined followers. On September 28, the massive army arrived at the rich mining city of Guanajuato, where all the Spaniards and colonial officials had barricaded themselves
Rates of Reaction Reactions Reactions can only occur when two different particles come together. The theory for the way the reaction occurs is called The Collision Theory. The collision theory states that that the different particles need to collide with each other in order to react. However, they do not react if they collide without sufficient energy, and therefore the more energy a particle has, the more likely it is to react.
Investigation of Rates of Reaction I am going to investigate the rate of reaction with magnesium and
It should be expected that the rate of this reaction will depend on the concentration of the biosulfite ion and the iodate ion. However, is the reaction fifth order with respect to the biosulfite ion? It seems unlikely that five biosulfite ions would be able to simultaneously collide with two iodate ions. It woul be more likely that the reaction proceeds in a series of elementary reactions.
All of us at one point in our life have had a fear of something, whether it’s public speaking, trying something new for the first time, or even presenting just like we're all going to be doing. I'm sure most of us will be nervous and we try our best to get rid of that feeling. Some people have Social anxiety which is known as social phobia. It is the fear of social interaction with other people and of being judged and looked down upon. It can also be a fear of embarrassment. This leads to feelings of inadequacy, self-consciousness, and depression. Social anxiety is an issue that affects many individuals as it should be taken more seriously and should not be considered as a weakness. Moreover, individuals with social anxiety should not be judged
Early American culture did not consider child abuse a crime. Children over the age of 7 were made to work as hard as adults of the time period. They were often beaten if they did not. This changed in the late 19th century when 9 year old Mary Ellen, who endured physical beatings from her foster mother, was reported to the authorities by concerned neighbors who heard Mary’s repeated cries at the hand or switch of her foster mother. In 1874, a mission volunteer named Etta Wheeler was informed of Mary’s cruel life of beatings, imprisonment and cold-hearted servitude. When Etta Wheeler was finally permitted to observe Mary in her living quarters, appalled she began to do everything in her power to get Mary out of her horrid situation. Wheeler convinced the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to intervene and by legal means have Mary removed from the home. Their argument was that “Mary Ellen was a member of the animal kingdom, and thus could be included under the laws which protected animals from human cruelty” (Bell, 2011, p. 3). Out of this advocacy for Young Mary was formed the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. The overall effect of young Mary’s abuse was permanent changes in United States law making abuse, violence, and negle...
In a sense avoidance is a coping mechanism which happens to create stress, anxiety and reduces self-confidence (Boyes, 2013). Fortunately, for students with temperament shyness this avoidance coping mechanism can be overcome once recognized. However, it is important to first question why there is a difference between shy and non-shy students. One approach to this question is the labeling theory which is the idea that if given a label and accepted that it will affect how they see themselves and how other perceive them. For example, “ ‘teachers in one classic study were told to watch normal elementary school children who had been labeled (for the study) as ‘learning disabled,’ ‘mentally retarded,’ ‘emotionally disturbed,’ or ‘normal’ Sadly, teachers gave the children very different ratings, depending on the labels used,’” (as cited in Coon & Mitterer, 2014, page 46). This concept is similar to that of shyness. Once a student is label as “shy” in the classroom it effects the student’s self-esteem. If the student is willing to change attitude toward shyness and interacting with other in social situations, they can overcome avoidance approach by practicing. Dr. Henderson and Dr. Zimbardo developed a program called “Social Fitness Training” where the idea is that someone can improve their social skills through practice the same way someone would train their physical fitness ("Social Fitness Training Model"). For example, instead on not answering a question due to the fear of being made fun off or being judge by their class mates, a student would deliberately try to raise their hand to overcome shyness. This should serve as a reminder for teachers to seek out shy students and guide them to overcome shyness in hopes that it could prevent it from deepening into
People all over the world have accomplished things that made them who they are today. Overcoming shyness was a huge accomplishment and something that was very significant to me that marked my transition from childhood to adulthood.
I remained very shy and quiet except around those who were close to me most of my childhood years. After connecting the dots and reflecting upon my shy personality, it all comes back to events that occurred with an old best friend. In elementary school, I had a best friend who consistently deceived me and went behind my back. Being raised carefully I am able to keep that trust with people, but due to past events with a friend I have found that it is extremely easy to lose that trust and is hard for me to gain
I 'm going to talk to you about a big part of my life that my shyness greatly affected. First, I would
The first step is to develop a healthy mental image of meeting new people. Some of us see meeting new people as a scary event. We are concerned about making a good impression, whether the other person will like us, how to keep the conversation going, and so on. The more we think about it, the scarier it seems. This initial apprehension develops into a mental fear, which takes a life of its own and unknowingly blocks us from making new friends. Shyness toward others is actually a result of fear.
