One would think in this day in age, the designs created for the websites seen on the internet would bring in the largest number of customers as possible. However, upon searching the internet, the results concluded to prove otherwise. There are hundreds of websites that either use incorrect font size, use outdated servers, causing the web page to load slowly, or either has too much or too little “eye candy” to draw in consumers. This case study will start by first focusing on a website I found that is an example of some of these traits. Poorly Designed Website The website I found that needs work to appeal to consumers is a website for vacation rentals called http://paradisewithaview.com/. There are so numerous items wrong with this web page, …show more content…
Having played soccer for years I decided to look at the Adidas web page found at http://www.adidas.com/us. This web page is clean and appealing to the eye. For starters, we will examine the text on the web page. Asides from a couple of spots on the web page, all the text on the main page is either in white or black text. This causes the main page to be easy to read without having to use over bearing colors such as the first website I looked at. Also, they use different font sizes in the correct places on the web page. For example, the text in the navigation bar on the top of the page is smaller than the text below it to not pull the consumer away from what the main page is advertising. Their choices of design layout known as simplifying the web page set up. Strickler (2016) states “many businesses are taking web design back to the basics with minimalistic designs and layouts” (Minimalism, para. 1). This leads into the navigation of the web …show more content…
If one were to navigate to the men’s soccer page, we can visualize how well the images are being used. The web page admin displays each piece of footwear with its name and price below it. The pictures of each footwear show it with a grey background so it is easy to discern the photo from the white background of the page. The layout of the pictures are in a simple grid pattern that is easy to follow and not overbearing. Lastly, we will look at whether the web servers are playing a part in the issues the ParadiseWithAView.com web page is having. Web Servers With regards to the web servers ParadiseWithAView.com is using, I do not notice this as one of the issues it is having. When opening the web page, it opens relatively quickly with no delay. The only delay that was noticeable was trying to open the e-mail to the admin link. The link never opened, but this could be due to a broken link and not to a web server issue. As stated before, the admin should look at this link and insure the address for this link is correct for the rest of the web page seems to function without issue.
In a second attempt to further expand the company horizons, an e-commerce site was created. This site is interesting because its main focus is not the clothing but the “lifestyle”. Upon entering the Abercrombie and Fitch website, the first thing the consumer sees is a half naked man, sprawled on the ground, eating a plate full of fruit. It is just to be inferred that he is wearing Abercrombie and Fitch clothing. This just shows how the image of Abercrombie is much more important than the clothing itself. The site itself is bright and summery. The attitude is carefree, active and sexy. Maneuvering ones way around this website is relatively easy. The links include Lifestyle, A&F TV, A&F Quarterly (the magazine/catalogue), Company, and Shop A&F. Other links include, music, movies, downloads, postcards, photos, and “hot” sites. The website seems to be almost completely focused on drawing the consumer into the lifestyle of Abercrombie and Fitch. The information the company gives is very limited. For example, throughout the entire website, there is not one mention of a company mission statement, yet there is a plethora of information about the company’s financial standings.
The design adopted in the development of a website is a major factor that determines if the website meets its mandate or not. The design of a website is what attracts users to the site and even keeps them for prolonged periods of time on the website. This report gives a critique of The Times online website. This site can be categorized as an informative site. The mandate of this site is to provide information to users on a broad category of topics. These include sports, general news, community events, entertainment, classifieds among other categories of information. Nevertheless, if you fail to provide the results your clients want, no matter how hard you worked, there are thousands of other professionals waiting for their chance. You do all the right things, but if you can’t raise the domain authority of the website or increase their search engine results, your clients will look elsewhere. In the end, the metrics matter the most to clients.

The question is how do we get customers to visit our website? We would have to take the perspective of our website being the face of our e-Commerce business. Looking at what we offer, purchasing a cellular phone on-demand to customers’ specification require our site to be informative.
Next is in terms of the design and aesthetics. Layout that being used for this website is a plain white which easier people to read the text that is in black, in contrast and suitable for the concept of showroom online. The font is also suits which is not too big and not too small to be read by people. To highlight the main subject or the main product, the font is being bold to alert customers that they choose the right one. There is no audio available for this website or even a video. But somehow, as it was a home furnishing website, most of the pictures being used by the website is in JPEG format to deliver a clear view of the products to customers.
Adidas is the second largest sports apparel and footwear brand in the World behind Nike. While Adidas was officially founded in 1949, Adidas really began in the mid 1920s following the end of World War 1, when Adolf “Adi” Dassler began making athletic spike shoes out of his mother’s washroom in Herzogenaurach, Germany. Adidas is what it is today because of the vision Adi Dassler had “to provide athletes with the best possible equipment.” Adolf made a name for Adidas by first sponsoring Jesse Owens in the 1936 Berlin Olympics, where he won 4 gold medals running with Adidas made spike shoes. After that, everyone around the world wanted a pair of the shoes the fastest man in the world was running in. Adolf Dassler’s success is owed to his ability
The website is based on what the company wants to offer the customers and not what the customers want, as in to meet customers' expectations.
The purpose of the website is to make the company money and ensure that a large profit is made. It does this by selling items such as clothing, footwear and accessories. JD sports is not just an online business, it also operates as a high street shop as well. The website runs alongside the high-street shops to help makes sales. The reason it has a website is because this offers a worldwide option and means that anyone over the world can buy products form JD increasing the profit massively. Having a website also means that there are less overheads and staff then in one of the high street shops. The website has more than one purpose. Another purpose is to ensure that the customer keeps on using the website. This is called ‘retaining’ the customer. The website does meet these objectives successfully as the company is still running and is a very wealthy company so it is obviously making a good profit. JD sports is a very well known company around the world any many people buy products form JD time and time again so they are very successful in retaining their customers.
There are a few issues that I have found out in the current Doublewoot Online Fashion Store website which is:
The design of the Web site is very bright and appealing to the eye. Its layout is inviting and easy to navigate. Its design is consistent through all pages. There are many graphics including, photographs, illustrations, and animated buttons and GIFs. These graphics are placed in an orderly fashion and do not create a cluttered appearance. The site has its own search engine which assists in navigating throughout the site.
In the day and age of the 21st century, technology has revolutionised and assisted the planet, providing humanity with knowledge and experiences that twenty years ago would not be thought possible. Due to the ever - modernising world, people must adapt to these new advances, to be able to coexist and understand how to utilise, maintain and improve the use of technology. The Internet plays a significant role in the contribution of knowledge, education, information and entertainment. For this reason, the Internet must be accessible and readable to all audiences, websites must be easy to navigate, and adhere to the needs of users. The intent of this essay is to analyse a website in terms of its purpose, context, communication techniques and whether it meets the needs of the intended audience.
