In today’s society, we have a diverse population that we deal with every day. In this paper is about the diversity of homeless people, the different types of disabilities that we face, and low-income families that struggle to survive. All in which face a tough world of diversity in every aspect of their lives. Also is one type of diversity that we have not met yet that I think is a problem is the Native Americans and other tribes. Being homeless is a very big problem for Americans today. Each day we see it, but what about the causes? The definition of a person who is homeless lives in public with no shelter. Over six-hundred thousand individuals are currently homeless in the U.S. In our current society, people often become homeless due to circumstances beyond their control. Humans often face abrupt personal and public challenges within their lives causing change and displacement in their housing status without notice nor a choice. In relation to personal reasons for homelessness, individuals who identify as LGBTQ and victims of domestic violence encounter many different situational problems leaving them displaced. Homelessness can be categorized into three groups; primary homelessness; those without adequate accommodation, secondary homelessness; also known as couch surfing, and tertiary homelessness; such as boarding housing and caravan parks. These categories range from the most severe to the least severe, with secondary homelessness being the most common form of homelessness for young people. Youth homelessness is a prevalent issue in today’s society, as there are 100, 000 people that are homeless in Australia on any given night, at least half of these people who are under the age of 25. Mental illness is a condition that interrupts a person’s thought process, mood, emotion and ability to relate to others as well as daily functioning (Halter, 2014). Approximately 20-25% of adult homeless population suffers from some form of mental illness. I always see a homeless person. Whether on the streets, an alley or even the subway. You’ll always see one every time you visit. I get to help one homeless person one time while I was staying in the city for 3 days. It was 12:30 am and I was about to head back to the hotel, but I was thirsty, so I went to a convenience store near, when I saw a girl sitting outside a convenience store. She looks young, probably a young adult. I was thinking, maybe that girl hadn’t eaten anything, and if maybe I could grab her some food. I went inside the store, the only thing I need to buy is a bottle of water, but I ended up buying sandwiches, fruits and a two bottles of water. I took 1 bottle of water out and give the rest of the bag to her. She was smiling and said “thank you”. My response is “you’re welcome” and smiled back.
