The design of my kihei represents a crossroads since Tokyo, where I am from, is famous for crossroads. Especially, Shibuya scramble crosswalk, which is close to my high school, is one of the most famous places in Tokyo. On this crosswalk, about 3000 people cross once at the most, and approximately 500 thousand people cross a day. On the kihei, each arch refers people walking across roads, and the whole design is showing my life that has been created by crossroads I have been and will go through, and became and will become turning points of my life. The all traffic lights turn red at the same time and traffic stop completely. Then, pedestrians surge into the intersection from all directions. Walking into this crowd is interesting but hard because there are too many people. It is like when I try something new; I struggle to go through problems, but it is also exciting. Moreover, everyday I interact with people who have different backgrounds at school, roads, and everywhere, like when I cross the crosswalk in Shibuya. Thus I thought the crossroad is reflecting my life.
In addition, I decided to use crossroads for the kihei design because right now, I am at a crossroads of my life. I am graduating the next semester, so I need to choose what I will do after graduating from this college; going to 4-year college or starting job. Either way, I need to move out this island, and it will definitely be one of the biggest turning points of my life. The crossroads is known as the entrance of Shibuya, one of the busiest downtown in Tokyo. This downtown is the source of the new trends of culture. Young people gather in this town to seek something new and exciting. Thus, this crossroads are filled up with the energy of beginnings. Similar to that, Hilo has the international airport that is the entrance of this island. Moreover, Hilo also has a nice energy to start something new.
