Life cannot go easy by having any difficulties. Freshmen are mostly stressed out by having difficulties such as getting assignments done before deadlines, pressuring themselves to get better grades and so on. In addition, if the amount of stress causes greatly, it can cause the freshmen to suffer from depression. Freshmen are stressed out by most common reasons, which is caused by sleep deprivation, academic performances, and poor nutrition. (Segal, 2016) During college life, most of the freshmen have lack of sleep. When a freshman doesn’t get enough sleep, it can lead to bad mood and of course, depression. The director of the Center for Circadian Medicine, Matthew Edlund said, “If you don’t sleep, you don’t have time to replenish [brain cells], the brain stops functioning well, and one of the many factors that could lead to is depression.” Driscoll (2011) In addition, every sleeping more than eight hours is important and healthy for freshmen students. Lack of sleep can cause freshmen students to get low GPA, nearly failing grade, low concentration in class, and affecting memory. Entering post-secondary education is a completely new environment for students, as it can be tough for many to adjust to the new surroundings. There are many factors that cause stress when students enter college, as it can include having the ability to deal with lower marks (Struthers et al., 2000) and having to create a new social life. Once and if a social life is established, it can cause more stress among students because it can lead into peer pressure that results in risky behavior. In particular, peer pressure can cause alcoholism or drug abuse (Seiffge-Krenke, 1990) or it can also cause unprotected sex. Not only does stress revolve around peer-pressure, but it can also be caused by headaches and lack of energy. If a student is constantly staying up late to finish assignments or to study, it can cause headaches from the lack of sleep; thus causing stress. College students are no exception to the rule and are often at a greater risk of suffering from conditions that accompany sleep deprivation. Regardless of the time period, a college student must be well rested in order to perform at his or her best in terms of physical performance, memorization capabilities, and test-taking abilities. Leaving home for the first time and going away for school can be very difficult for some people. In many cases for college freshmen this is their first time being away from their home and parents.
