Depression can greatly impact freshmen’s lives. During college life, depression can be quite common for the freshmen students and it has become a major factor. Mayo Clinic Staff (2015) Depression is a mood disorder in which a person feels sad and hopeless most of the time. It can highly affect on freshmen students to harm them mentally and physically. In addition, it is common that most freshmen have stress and difficulties during their academic life and outside. Nowadays, there has become more competition between the students that can cause more pressure and stress. However, they can be more stressed out during exams. In addition, the parents who force their children to work harder in order to get better grades than others can also give pressure. …show more content…

Life cannot go easy by having any difficulties. Freshmen are mostly stressed out by having difficulties such as getting assignments done before deadlines, pressuring themselves to get better grades and so on. In addition, if the amount of stress causes greatly, it can cause the freshmen to suffer from depression. Freshmen are stressed out by most common reasons, which is caused by sleep deprivation, academic performances, and poor nutrition. (Segal, 2016) During college life, most of the freshmen have lack of sleep. When a freshman doesn’t get enough sleep, it can lead to bad mood and of course, depression. The director of the Center for Circadian Medicine, Matthew Edlund said, “If you don’t sleep, you don’t have time to replenish [brain cells], the brain stops functioning well, and one of the many factors that could lead to is depression.” Driscoll (2011) In addition, every sleeping more than eight hours is important and healthy for freshmen students. Lack of sleep can cause freshmen students to get low GPA, nearly failing grade, low concentration in class, and affecting memory. Based on a true story in 1965, a high school student named Randy Gardner tried to test himself without sleeping for eleven days. He wanted to test it because he was curious if he could stay awake until the end of the experiment. On the second day, he became emotional and clumsy. By those reasons, some freshmen might have trouble handling with their relationship. Although, some people would say that most happy relationships could have a huge change during difficult times, it can also affect badly. Grohol (2009) Freshmen who are stressed out might cause to become unpleasant and a bit farther away from their partners. Newcomer (2015) Although it is impossible for the freshmen students to get rid of stress, it is possible to have their relationships to get back together. There are some ways that could help freshmen students to help improve in their relationship. One way is to solve problems together with their partners, so that they can solve each other’s stress and can turn their relationship into a better way. However, if they don’t do anything about it, it might become a problem.
