“Depression?... It’s like drowning. When you cans still see everyone else breathing.” –Author unknown. Depression is defined in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary as “a serious medical condition in which a person feels very sad, hopeless, and unimportant and is often unable to live in a normal way.” Depression is not, however just feeling sad or down, it is not a sign of weakness, and is not selfish. It is time to discuss this very emotional topic; not for the attention, but for the closure and feeling of relief. From “drowning” to being alone in a quiet room, I’ve experienced it all. Those who bring the depression into a controllable state are the greatest role models in my eyes. The people who do not make it past the point of excessive sadness however, are the perfect examples of the breaking point of the human mind. Depression is being trapped in your own, unexplainable, sadness; you feel lost, alone, and feel as if you cannot take anymore.
First of all, the feeling of being alone can be exceedingly overwhelming. If you have never experienced depression you have no idea how bad the pain can become. There are people who will do anything to get rid of the emotional pain, from drinking themselves into a delirious state to popping pills to relieve the “pain” they feel. The people in this state of mind will overthink everything and possibly drive themselves insane doing so. You lose the motivation to do the things you once enjoyed and you feel like there is nothing to look forward to anymore. The people in this mind set will say they are “Fine” or “just tired”, and in their mind they are fine because the feelings are normal. When the phrase “I’m just tired.” Comes into play, however they are exactly that; they are tired of trying, tire...

...eel, and I keep my head held high because of that. Music and reading have helped me a lot to positively express my emotions. You have to find the positive things in life to let your emotions pour into, or you will end up in a place you never want to see. Remember that everything in life happens for a reason and you need to take a breath and let it happen.
The immense sadness you feel with depression can leave you feeling lost, alone, and like you cannot take it anymore. I know that it is hard to stay strong when everything is falling apart around you, and that you can only do it for so long, but it is possible. Depression has affected every aspect of my life. Though I cannot change the past, I have faith that one day I will be able to live my life like a normal person one day. “Keep listening to music, cause it gets you through everything.
