Dental hygiene’s technologies and techniques have changed significantly for the best, since the profession began in the 1900s. All health professions are always trying to improve and have the next best thing for their patients. The improvements are in a wide range from design developments in hand instruments to new techniques in dental radiography. Advances such as those change the way hygienists and patients. Dental hygienists know that staying up to date with advancements and keep open to change are key to best practices.

Toothbrushes have changed dramatically over the years. When a toothbrush was first made way in the 1780, they used animal air for the bristles. Over the years the toothbrush has gotten more advanced and built better. Now we have toothbrushes that have bristle like fibers and they have power toothbrushes now. Yes a manual toothbrush is sufficient with cleaning bacteria, but hygienists are now telling their patients about a power brush that works better.
