Vincent Tran Mr. Decker/Mr. Castanah AP Government 15 September 2017 Dental hygiene career research paper The field i'm going to be doing my research is in the medical field because it always peaked my interest and as a kid it's something I always wanted to pursue for my future careers. The three job titles I would like to pursue are dental hygienist, forensic scientist, and pharmacist. The first choice I chose was dental hygiene, at first I wanted to be a dentist but after knowing that I would have to undergo many years of education and training to become a dentist, I wanted to start off with something small at first that's when I came across dental hygiene. It sounded fascinating and a subject I would like to focus on because it was a field …show more content…

In the Dental Hygiene field, many challenges come about every day and during different situations. Every day there are new challenges and unusual situations that occur in the dental field, but one challenge that continues to come about and has been a big dispute over the years is the ability to provide beneficial information about oral health care for the underprivileged. For the individuals that are not fortunate enough to pay to have services done in the dental office, lack the knowledge of how important good oral health care is. They do not receive the one on one conversations explaining the significance of taking care of your teeth and gums that the patients who can afford to make appointments and receive essential services do. That
When envisaging a future career, we generally tend to base our ideas off of the most known careers such as doctors, chefs, police officers and fireman, without the knowledge of the other possible career opportunities. After doing weeks of extensive research, I found a very feasible and riveting future career, a Dental Hygienist. Dental Hygiene is a preventive oral health profession that helps people maintain better dental health for the future. Though this career seems quite easy, it’s a crucial job that adults and children of all ages need.
Do you know what you want to do when you graduate from high school? For me that’s an easy question to answer. I want to go to college to become a Dental Hygienist. By becoming a dental hygienist I will accommodate a good amount of pay to support myself and my future family. Becoming a hygienist is most likely the best choice for me because I have always been interested in teeth and one of my main priorities is my oral hygiene. But also, I have been told that I am really good at making people feel more comfortable and helping them relax. Therefore I have come to the conclusion that dental hygiene is the job for me.
My goals after I graduate from college are to work as a registered dental hygienist, have financial income in a professional setting, and to serve the public in a positive way. In addition to that, I have always had an entrepreneurial bend element in my personality, and once I gain full employment and stability, being a dental hygienist is the type of job that would allow me to pursue some of my other hobbies and interests while making a contribution to the community. Additionally, that part-time business could eventually turn into a full-time career. The first step to becoming an entrepreneur is gaining employment, and being a dental hygienist would allow me to network with hundreds of different cross-sections of society and get to the point
Throughout the years, I've learned to accept the fact that going to the dentist is as bad as it seems. In other words, no kid has ever liked going to the dentist, for the fact being that all they seem to do is dig through our mouths and jab at our gums. At one point or another, everyone is required to go to the dentist for either a filling, cavity, or just simply a cleaning, but that wasn't the case for me. I had to get my braces on. Doesn't sound as bad as it truly is but two years of dealing with metal in your mouth isn't my idea of “a walk in the park”. Not only is getting braces on a bad thing for me but the fact that it was early in the morning so I was tired and that fact that I felt like I was growing old just waiting for the dentist
This was until I took Introduction to Kinesiology and I began to rethink my career options. During the semester many guest speakers came in to discuss their careers and what options we had as students. One of our guest speakers was an epidemiologist and described his career, and instantly I started researching careers in epidemiology. I decided that a Master’s in Public Health is the best option for myself. While in the program I plan to focus on the specialization of health administration. Overall I feel Health Administrators have the biggest impact on a large amount of people. Health Administration is the right career for me because it involves planning and coordinating which I’m extremely good at thanks to the responsibilities my two part-time jobs thrust upon me. Once I graduate from the program I would like to work in a small health care facility, such as a rehabilitation center. Eventually I would like to work my way up to the CEO of a health programs, but before then I would like to experience all the positions in healthcare administration
What is the first thing you notice about a person? Is it the way they dress, their eyes or their smile? For some, it may be their smile. As a matter of fact, I have heard many people say that it's a deal breaker if they have messed up teeth. For this reason, I would like to be an orthodontist so I can help give people confidence about their smile.
One of my favorite quotes is by Steve Jobs, states, "Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow know what you truly want to become." This quote is exactly what I am doing today by submitting my application to the Dental Hygiene program. I am taking years of training, success, and failure and focusing them all in one direction on obtaining my deepest desire. Over the last fourteen years, I've had plenty of time to develop myself and gain a full understanding of what I want to do with my life. I've come to not only love and appreciate every experience I've had in the medical field, but also aspire to grow and embrace the new challenge. Working as a Medical Assistant in an outpatient surgery clinic I learnt that I excel most when I'm working directly with patients, in a hands-on environment. I also found out that I'm extremely passionate about educating people, especially mothers; because I believe mothers play a key role in teaching the next generation about how to develop healthy lifestyle habits.
I became interested in the dentist field when I myself had braces. Watching them place the brackets on teeth, make molds, and insert colorful rubbers in between the brackets was something I became curious to see. I’m also interested in becoming a pediatric dentist because how much I cherish kids. I plan to take on a career in which I can be involved with children and have considerable skill to alleviate them in some
Why did I choose the career forensic pathology? I chose this career because I have always been a curious person, and the thought of being the one who figures out a mysterious death and giving their family closure is very exciting to me. It is a great feeling knowing you have made a difference in someone’s life, from gun wounds to suicide I feel that the family deserves to know. I knew that I wanted to solve these kinds of mysteries when uncle died and no one knew how he died, or at least they didn’t want to tell us. I later found out that the scientifically correct term for someone who investigates deaths like his is forensic pathology.
My curiosity developed as I grew older and realized I had hypodontia of what initially appeared to be teeth 20 and 4. I had no idea what hypodontia was and was shocked that this was happening under my nose – pun intended – and didn’t even know. That’s what caused to become interested in dentistry. Simultaneously I was nearing the end of high school and the time came to enter college and I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with my life, however I did know I wanted to be in healthcare. Dentistry attracted me the most out all the other fields I researched. I already had general generic appreciation of it. Moreover, I loved the idea of you physically being the solution to a patient’s oral problem. The dentist is the mechanism of action and I could be that person. Eventually, I realized I wanted to pursue dental medicine and started to shadow different areas of practice. My experiences have taught me no matter the specialty or location of practice the personality of the entire dental team is integral to long term success. While shadowing I learned about not just what I liked about endodontics and what I didn’t like so much about orthodontics. Keeping a patient goes beyond the treatment or service being rendered but it’s about
“What do you want to be when you grow up?,” the undeterminable question that has been taunting us since kindergarten. As toddlers, we usually aspire to be our parents, considering they are our whole world. As we get older and we start to form our own opinions and goals, it is important to educate ourselves on a plethora of careers. When approaching our college years, we start to consider what occupations fit us, personally. Priorities for a job are different for everybody and cannot be determined over night, keeping in mind that humans change their mind all the time. Students considering an occupation in medicine may examine the field of anesthesiology as it is lucrative, intellectually fulfilling, and opens up a door for adventure or diversity:
Going into the pre-med program at the ATA I had previously thought about being an Orthodontist. It was something i found very very interesting. Going through the pre med class and interning at a pediatric dental office over the summer i decided that was far from what i wanted to do. I am almost positive that i would like to become a Dermatologist or something along those lines. After graduating high school i want to attend Horry Georgetown Technical College. After this two year program i will transfer to a four year college. I'm not 100% sure on what college i would like to attend but i'm strongly thinking about attending Charleston Southern. I choose this because I have always been interesting helping people who are in need. I have always
The three careers I chose to do my research paper on were a psychiatrist, neonatal nurse, and a preschool teacher. I chose one of my careers to be a psychiatrist. I chose this career because I find things having to do with the mind interesting. I find psychology in general interesting and I would love to take part in a career that has to do with it. I also consider being a preschool teacher because I like children and I think I would enjoy the job. For me, it would be quite enjoyable to come to work everyday to teach younger children with the use of arts and crafts which I enjoy to do. Finally, I chose the job as a neonatal nurse because I enjoy taking care of babies and I would love
clarification on my career plans--a dentist or a dental hygienist--assuming I meant the latter. And
