What exactly is communication? Communication is the process of understanding our experiences and the experiences of others (Moore & Parker, 2012). Communication present in everyday life, in the workplace, in school and home or personal life. Many use different means to communicate from formal to informal and verbal to nonverbal. Verbal communication is mainly written or oral, while nonverbal encompasses body language, facial expressions, eye contact, tone of voice, and gestures. The way in which people communicate is a skill that may take some development. Once the skill is developed, it can be utilized in writing, speeches, and even electronic messages. In turn, communication no matter the audience will become successful and confident.
Imagine a text message, non-verbal communication, just received by you from your employer. Now, imagine the message full of abbreviations, acronyms, symbols, and emoticons. As a professional in any business, you might find this form of communication unprofessional and ineffective. The way in which, people communicate can hinder the communication process among coworkers and in some cases, can be interpreted the wrong way. It is hard for words to have feelings; however, it is easy to read words with your own idea of emotion. When people us informal communication it can cause misunderstandings and confusion.
