(Abraham Lincoln) “Democracy is the government of the people, by the people, and for the people. However, democracy does not guarantee triumph in the same way that the lack thereof, does not guarantee failure.”

Even though the majority choice isn't always the right one, democracy is the best way to govern a nation because democracy is the most effective way to govern a nation, taking into account opinions of all the citizens, prevents corrupt governments, and maintains peace and stable transitions between governments.

Democracy is proven to be the most effective governance benefitting the citizens of a country. Countries such as Canada, France, the United States and the United Kingdom, just to mention a few, have prospered as a result of their democratic values and systems. A democratic nation has freedom of speech, high human rights, a vibrant civil society and its people are fully involved in decision making.

Democracy prevents the monopoly of power. This is because the party in power has to compete with other parties in the next election after their term ends. This therefore ensures that the power currently in power works for the people, towards their needs or run the risk of not being re-elected.

People have the right and freedom to criticize their government and policies, without the fear of being censored or penalized for their action. Democracy ensures that the government transitions are completed through peaceful process, rather than through violent means.
