Introduction Delta Air Lines was founded in the year 1924 and is among the oldest airlines in operation. It operates thirteen hubs across the world with the largest being located at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The airline flies to 335 destinations across the world, in North America, Africa, Europe, South America, Oceania and Asia. Delta is among the founding members of the Sky Team alliance and has developed codeshare agreements with around seven different airlines. The airline has a fleet of 809 airlines which include Boeing, McDonnell Douglas and Airbus planes. The two airlines target the same groups of customers, customers of the upper middle class and individuals of high net worth as well as travellers who travel frequently for business. They are both known to be premier airlines which offer services of high quality. United is also a founding member of the Star Alliance which is a direct competitor of SkyTeam Alliance where Delta belongs. United is also the largest carrier in the U.S and serves every part of Asia (Negarten, 2018). The Southwest Airlines has continued to thrive in the industry as it takes the share of the market away from the other airlines that are thriving like Delta. As of January 2018, it had a market capitalization of 38.21 billion. It has been offering customer service that is friendly and flights that are less costly as well as limiting its flights to routes with higher revenues. It also uses its Boeing 737 fleet for every route to minimize expenses. Due to the success it has achieved, other airlines have had to change routes, reduce prices as well as amenities in order to compete. However, compared to Delta, the Southwest Airline is generally new and its target is on the fliers from the middle-class level instead of the travellers of the business class. It depends heavily on the American market as opposed to Delta which is an international player. The American Airlines Group is a holding company for the Us Airways and American Airline. It caters for the upper middle class and the travellers travelling frequently for business which is the same group targeted by Delta. It is known for a loyalty program for the customers that is one of the best. It also has a strong image for entertainment for onboard and a strong new image which came about after the merger between U.S airways
