Its name means “twins” in Lati... ... middle of paper ... ...bout size, Sagittarius comes in as 15th biggest constellation (Kim Ann Zimmerman). Sagittarius is the 9th sign in the Zodiac constellations. Aquarius is the 11th zodiac sign of the zodiac constellations. The name Aquarius means the water bearer. Aquarius is a summer constellation and is best seen in the month of September (“The Signs of the Zodiac and the 12 Zodiacal Constellations”).
The star Alnilam, the middle star, is also a super- giant. As close as it seems, it is actually 1,000 light years away from Earth. It has the coolest temperature of these three stars, that makeup Orion’s belt. With the temperature of 50,000 Celsius, it is 18,000 times brighter than the sun. The star Alnitak, the last star is dimmer than the rest.
Stars also have different temperatures. Temperatures ranging from 2,100C to 50,000C. The temperature of the stars is indicated by the colour of the stars. The blue colour stars are the hottest and usually the brightest stars, the yellow stars are medium hot, and the red stars are coolest and the most dim. Over time, there have been many questions concerning the supply of gas clouds in our galaxy.
• DI Herculis is an Algol-type binary star in the constellation of Hercules. The system has an ensemble magnitude of about 8.5 and consists of two young blue stars of spectral type B5 and B4. The magnitude varies between 8.4 and 9.1 during an eclipse last 10.55 days. • Beta Aurigae is a binary star system in the constellation of Auriga. The combined apparent visual magnitude of the system is 1.9, making it the second brightest member of the constellation after Capella.
"Cassiopeia is a group of stars, the brightest which form a large W in the northern sky." (Miller, 10). Cassiopeia is found next to the Big Dipper and Orion. Its shape is an exact M or W, formed with the five bright stars. "The mythic Cassiopeia was an Ethiopian Queen."
There are eight planets in our solar system. The first planet closest to the sun is Mercury. Therefore, Mercury is the hottest planet. Mercury’s surface is cold. However, in the daytime Mercury can get as hot as 840 degrees fahrenheit, which is 450 degrees celsius.
These stars range from cool, dim, red stars at the lower right of the H-R Diagram to hot, bright, blue stars at the upper left corner of the H-R Diagram. The stars that fall into to this band are known as main-sequence stars. Stars such as the sun, and almost every start visible in the night sky fall within this band of main sequence stars. There is another group of stars which are cool and bright that appear near the upper right corner of the H-R Diagram. These stars are very large and therefore have very big surface areas.
“To find it look for the summer triangle and make a line from Vega through Altair to the lower southern sky” (Zimmerman 3). It has a latitude of +60,-90. You can normally see it in September around nine o’ clock P.M. Capricorn has approximately 27 stars in its Constellation. The three brightest stars, Alpha2, Deneb Algedi, and Omega, form a triangle in the sky that makes it easier to see Capricorn. The brightest star in Capricorn is Deneb Algedi with a magnitude of 2.85.
Supermassive black holes are the largest type of black hole. Galaxies that have less than a billion stars are considered “small galaxies”. Galaxies are categorized according to their shape. There are three types of galaxies, which are elliptical, spiral, and irregular galaxies. Elliptical galaxies have very bright centers and little dust and gas.
Hadar, also known as Beta Centauri, is the 10th brightest stars (11th as viewed from Earth). Hadar is a blue-white super giant in the constellation Centaurus (Cen). In about 4,000 years, the motion of Alpha Centauri, who’s proper name is Rigel Kentaurus, will carry it close enough to Hadar that they will appear to be a magnificent double star. Because of the distance away from Earth that Alpha and Beta Centauri are (approximately 90 parsecs), they will be an optical double. As they sit today, the two stars look like a pair of eyes, the right one being Hadar and the left being Rigel Kentaurus.
