The land desertification can be a huge area and it is almost cannot be able to control. In addition, it is not only threatening the people and animals in the Amazon, the world is also threatened by deforestation. Thus, deforestation is one of the biggest problems in the world that people have to consider because it costs three main long term effects: land desertification, species extinction and climate transformation. The research paper will discuss and consider the long term negative effect in the Amazon rainforest which is caused by deforestation. First, the paper will present the cause and effect of land deforestation.
People are continuously reducing the biodiversity of our planet. The loss of biodiversity with our tropical rainforests, oceans, and lakes are very harmful and unpredictable. Rainforest are so rich with various species that it is highly doubtful that we will ever encounter them all. Rainforest are being destroyed by developing nations in order for homes, agriculture, and other various reasons.
The people responsible for this mainly falls to the loggers who chop down trees for lumber and farmers who clear the trees away to make room for agriculture. Loggers and farmers should end deforestation to prevent the extinction of species and to avoid the extreme climate changes. As people cut down trees, it destroys the habitats of millions of plants and animals that may not survive to find another home and eliminating potential medicines. In a study conducted to investigate the impact of deforestation on birds, the experiment “resulted in a decrease in suitable habitat of between 78% and 93% for the Atlantic forest birds included here” (Loiselle et. al.

“In every sense, a standing rain forest supplies more economic wealth than if it were cleared … yet deforestation continues at an alarming rate.” (Tropical Rain Forest Coalition, 1996). Rain Forests have played a significant role in shaping modern biology. The destruction of the rain forests will determine the fate of all species humans plants and animals. Many people do not understand the long- term consequences of losing the earth’s rain forests. They have provided all living beings with many natural resources and medicines.
We live in a deteriorating world, one that is finite, yet we treat it as infinite. People live so carelessly that “between 10 percent and 30 percent of all mammal, bird and amphibian species are threatened with extinction.” (Lowy, 2005) Deforestation ravishes the world taking billions of trees away yearly, leaving the earth with little to no replenishment. The deforestation of the world needs to end. As the caretakers of God’s creation, the people of the world need to purposefully make preserving the environment a priority. We need to come up with new solutions to decrease deforestation.
At its current state, the Amazon is losing land equal to the size of the state of Delaware every year. The destruction of this forest releases 340 million tons of carbon per year according to the World Wildlife Foundation, or WWF, which in turn cause climate changes everywhere around the world. Undiscovered species can hold the key to curing a plethora of diseases, but if those species become extinct those keys are lost forever. If nothing is done to prevent this, the world’s treasure trove of bio-diversity will cease to exist, creating irreversible damage to not only the South American people but also the rest of the world. Conversion of the tropical forest into cropland and pasture began a long time ago in Ecuador, before their secession from Spain.
The felled trees fall, causing damages as it comes down. It also creates a hole in the top canopy, which takes hundreds of years to regenerate (WWF). According to the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO),”Logging roads are used by landless farmers to gain access to rainforest areas.” Also by (ITTO),”For this reason, commercial logging is considered by many to be the biggest single agent of tropical deforestation.” Along with loggers cutting down trees, the heavy machines and vehicles are also dangerous to the forests. First, the fumes that escape from the machines poison the trees, next, the machiner... ... middle of paper ... ... and Lohmann. Causes of Rainforest Destruction.
