Deforestation: Has This Global Pandemic Finally Been Reversed?

Imagine: animals flee in horror as their homes are cleared out by bulldozers and chainsaws; overhead birds are soaring, scavenging for a new nest after their tree viciously crashed to the ground. However, miles of barren and dead land are all these poor animals can find. Now to some people, this may resemble a cheesy animated movie where the animals have voices and eventually fight back to win their freedom. However, to innocent animals around the world, this is no laughing matter: this is reality. It has been found that through the years, millions of plant and animal species have been driven to extinction because they were deprived of a home (“Deforestation Stats, Statistics on”). “Seventy percent of Earth’s land animals and plants live in forests” and a vast majority of these animals have no chance of surviving if deforestation destroys their homes (“Deforestation Facts, Deforestation Information”). The reason for these extinct animals is due to half of the world’s tropical forests being cleared out for personal gain. “Every hour, at least 4,500 acres of forest fall to chain saws, machetes, flames, or bulldozers” (“Deforestation | Fast Facts and”). Deforestation has emerged as a deceitful pandemic that must be stopped before it is too late. If deforestation gets too out of hand, global warming will become so intense that all living organisms will not stand a chance. The leading causes of deforestation are companies, who in an attempt to make as much money as possible without paying too much, tear down forests and sell the wood off to buyers. They then take the land and sell it off to companies who will go on to use it for cheap production of goods.
