OB221 Self-Assessment Reflection Paper Charlie Welsh OB221 September 26, 2016 For the past seven years, I have been working across the country as a sailing coach. Whenever I’m coaching, I am always learning different things about both the people and me I am coaching. There are various aspects of coaching all of which stem from a series of traits. To coach sailing one needs to be spontaneous, aggressive, supportive, inspiring, organized but most importantly a leader. From when I first started to my most recent position, I have been in both a line position and manager position. (McCarthy). Organized chaos was the trick to the game in this situation. My job required an extensive amount of planning and research just to prepare for one day. We had daily briefings with our weather team and planned amongst our classes. First is time management splitting time between all my groups and learning how to maximize my time with them will not only help me with the rest of my time in Questrom but also in the business world. My MBTI results did not surprise me because I’m very aware of the things that I both participate in and believe in. Mainly being told I 'm an extrovert who enjoys being surrounded by groups wasn’t surprising. The MBTI results state that I “prefer creativity and freedom” which is not wrong at all. It is very accurate, working in areas the constraint-free following thought I do not enjoy. To be successful in this course, I believe I need to place great emphasis on my team. Along with that the solution to bettering myself will come by asking for feedback when it isn’t expected. Such as after completing a portion of a project or when we had a successful team
