What is happiness? Happiness is strenuous, if not impossible to define. Many would agree that money provides one with fundamental needs such as food and shelter that are a necessity for experiencing happiness. I believe that money cannot buy happiness. Currently, in society many people are trying to earn a lot of money so they can feel happy. These people think that the more money they have, the happier they will become because they will be able to buy everything. When one has everything, they do not have any goals or anything to look forward too. The initial moment when purchasing an item might really please you and make you happy, nevertheless that moment fades with time and will wear off. The issue is that they think money can buy happiness; however, money isn’t everything but that doesn’t mean you should not strive to …show more content…
Money may also allow a person to pursue his dreams. For example, a person who wants to attain higher education may not be able to without money. Money gives you more choices in your life. Having more choices will allow you to more opportunities of all types to choose paths that can lead to happiness, but again that happiness that money bought you is temporary and it will fade away. “Prof. Howell, associate professor of psychology at San Francisco State University, decided to look at what’s going on. In a study published earlier this year, he found that people think material purchases offer better value for the money because experiences are fleeting, and material goods last longer” (Blackman). “Money can’t cure all health problems either. Money has the ability to buy health equipment and surgeons but it cannot cure all illnesses. ‘Throwing money’ at a scientific problem can be an effective strategy, as long as it is new money and not a destructive redistribution of existing resources”
Happiness seems like a very complex issue, encompassed of individual and cultural differences. Therefore, attempting to acquire data to analyze it can formulate a difficult analysis. However, the question arises, is there a relationship between happiness and money? The basic understanding of not having money to cover basic needs causes a great amount of stress. Conversely, once basic needs are met, how does money affect pleasure? Another question arises, is there a magic income that maximizes happiness? Are there people who opt for very little money and desire further for happiness.
For some, happiness is all that matters. Happiness is achieved in many ways, and it doesn’t always involve money. There are many things that contribute to making a person feel happy and successful. One can feel successful without a lot of money at all. For example, feeling loved is something that makes everyone happy. Many believe that without love life is not thoroughly complete, thus never truly achieving success. Ones line of work can also affect how happy he is. Some feel that it is more important to enjoy work and get less money than it is to hate work and get paid more. Another factor in achieving psychological success is ones ability to enjoy what life gives him. There are many qualities of life that are overlooked. Everyone is dealt family and it is important to value that.
But does money truly measure success or happiness? Are people too driven by the colossal mansion, with a ten-car garage and a six-figure bank account? Do people really need luxury items? Are people too driven by jealousy and desire? Can a person be happy without money? These questions contain a massive thought process that many people are not ready to evaluate because they are too busy chasing money like a zombie chasing a brain. As a biology major, I have been told correlation does not equal causation. In terms of the world, money is related to happiness. However, money does not create happiness. When people are misinformed about money and happiness they become obsessed with an illogical notion and lose the meaning of happiness for themselves. People need to realize happiness lies in the actions we make. We as humans actualize happiness through the actions and words we choose to focus on. Actions are created by success, but first, we need to ask what does being successful
For some people, the reasons to work for money seem very obvious while others see money as a hindrance towards what is good. Jesus himself said, “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God” (ESV Mark 10:25). It is very clear that one should not worship money, put money above God, or allow money to be a distraction in any manner. However, when one considers money as a tool, they begin to understand the beneficiality of it. As a tool, one should pursue money as a means to an end. There are many potential end goals for someone’s pursuit of money which can be categorized into three types of goals. There are individual, family, and church/charity related goals.
Money, that paper flow of currency, it has giving the mean to purchase, sale and distribute. It has been called a defense. Beneficial to all, young and old, and with enough of it, one has the ability to purchase a dream home, a selfish car and even an event called hitting it big on the lottery when that one purchased ticket, with the right winning number is called. Money has now drawn our focus on its benefits of becoming successful in meeting our goals for life. Money has also become an accursed thing when greed is abounding. Buying, spending, building and creating are the benefits of having money. Financial stability and an easier way to meet the basic needs and more for the family is gain by having money. Money gives one the ability to stand even when the economy begins to sway. That amazing power money has to even look like a seed reproduce itself. Even now, in comparing money and happiness together, could only be stated in an opinion, because of life experiences (Lyubomirsky). In trying to define money, one would look at its power and its ability to get results. Even at its highest scope, can you see money buying something that only comes from inside of a person. Happiness is an emotion. It is the result of already being happy. Happiness could be defined as ones good health, happy family or even a kiss from a small child at bedtime. The emotion of having is different than the feeling of trying to obtain something (Brooks). Somehow we have forgotten about the things that can’t be purchased. How would this happen in such a loving world? Well, we first removed the thought that without maturity some things in life are left out of reach for a reason. One might ask themselves the question of purchasing something that ...
When you think of money how does it make you feel? How about when you have money how does that make you feel? Growing up surrounded by poverty and constant suffering I was always told money was the root of our problems. Even when you were having a great day money could always turn your mood upside down. My parents would use phrases such as “If only we had more money” or “If we weren’t so broke” around my household on a daily basis, and because of this I’ve always assumed the more money I have the more my problems will deteriorate and in the end will become happy. In the essay I plan to show both sides of money, not having any as well as having plenty. I will also showcase my point of view on whether or not money can buy happiness and my
Why so many rich people wanted happiness so desperately? While people always complained about money don’t buy their happiness, in fact money can actually buy us the happiness as long as we spend it on the right spot. We can start gaining our happiness by having stable income and good relationship with people and stop being selfish. As a matter of fact, there is variety ways to be happy but the principle is money doesn’t easily trade us happiness which is the emotional needs.
What exactly is happiness anyway? Happiness is when you feel complete and satisfied. It is when you’re content with where you are and what you have. It is the joy of doing something you love, or spending time with someone you love. It is an emotion and the best one yet. Money can easily make a person temporarily happy with the possessions it can buy, but true happiness is more than that. People can have everything material wise and still not be happy. Sure it can buy you many things, but the happiness from it is only temporary and limited. There’s only so much happiness you can buy with money. Money can easily buy you food, a clock, a house, education, make-up or medication; however it can’t buy you nutrition, time, a home, knowledge, beauty or health. It can buy you infatuation, but not love, acquaintances but not friendship and hierarchy but not respect. People spend their entire lives trying to make more and more money thinking that it means success. They neglect family and friends, don’t care about who they take down to reach their ...
Firstly, you said that money can buy happiness, in a way that’s true but you can’t buy emotions, how are you suppose to feel happy without emotions and they play a huge part in our lives too.
I never really thought the expression, “money can’t buy happiness”, was true. As an infant, just by observing the people around me, I observed when they would obtain money and a huge grin would spread across their face, the corners of their smile spreading from ear to ear. Whenever I would see that grin and a person’s face light up at the sight of a crisp, green bill it would make me believe that I had proved the famous expression wrong. Now that I’ve grown up and matured, my idea of that expression has changed. As of now, I am able to reflect on life more and look deeper into things and particularly into people more than I was able to do years ago. My ideas about this expression changed the most though because of the money situation my family had stumbled upon because of the failing economy. I remember being younger when the economy was doing well and waking up to twenty gifts for each of my three sisters and I. We used to believe that all of those presents, brought in because of money of course, were the best part of waking up on Christmas. Of course all of those toys and material items would make a child happy; however looking back it would only make them happy if it was given to them by somebody who bought it for them with love.
Money is indispensable for living and without it we are nothing. Family parents would die for their family, and if they have to sacrifice certain things in order to provide their children a good life, they would do it. On the other hand, you need to balance working life with leisure to be mentally and physically healthy. Finally, money is a ticket to personal health, prosperity and economic stability. Maybe money does not buy happiness, nevertheless, it definitely contributes to bring
Money and Happiness are two things that we have all given a lot thought. We put lots of effort into these two things either trying to earn them or trying to increase them. The connection we make between money and happiness is strange because they are two very different concepts. Money is tangible, you can quantify it, and know exactly how much of it you have at any given time. Happiness, on the other hand, is subjective, elusive, has different meanings for different people and despite the efforts of behavioral scientist and psychologist alike, there is no definitive way to measure happiness. In other word, counting happiness is much more difficult than counting dollar bills. How can we possibly make this connection? Well, money, specifically in large quantity, allows for the freedom to do and have anything you want. And in simplest term, happiness can be thought of as life satisfaction and enjoyment. So wouldn’t it make sense that the ability to do everything you desire, result in greater satisfaction with your life.
There are countless reasons why money buys happiness such as lets you lead a long illness free life, helps to strengthen bonds with your family and friends and helps create the world a better place to live. People might say that money brings people apart and causes stress and anxiety, but this is untrue and the positives of money outweigh the negatives. As a result, money is the answer to countless of the worlds and each individuals problems and it does buy happiness.
Family gatherings, laughing with friends and family, and nightly bike rides after dinner with my family are just a few things that come to mind when I think of things that make me happy. As people can obviously tell, money is not an item on my list. Most people do not put money on their lists when asked what makes them happy, but we often hear people say that they believe money can actually buy their happiness. I personally do not believe that is true. Money can obviously buy people some of the things that they want in life, such as fancy houses or cars and the latest smartphone, but it cannot buy people true happiness for many reasons: the amount of money that people have will never be enough, money cannot strengthen relationships with family
Money is one of the most important things in our lives, alongside to food to eat, a house to live in, and places to travel from here to there, but for all of those things, you need money. So that’s when “money can buy happiness” expression comes in because many people think that since money can buy everything they want in life, then it can easily buy happiness. The research on wealth and happiness is filled with contradictions. My parents lived a decent life style, they had the amount of an average person in Amman Jordan. Meaning that we weren 't filthy rich but we also weren 't poor either. The amount of money we had was enough to make us happy because we didn’t struggle with anything like food or other necessities we needed, my parents always
