In the 1964 soccer season, fan began to take on a rather peculiar pastime called “taking ends,” where fans on one side of the stadium would rush the opposing fans’ side and try to take control of their section. These acts of violence, team identification, and ritual aggression developed in a few short years into the social epidemic of soccer hooliganism. (Soccer 7) So what has caused these soccer fans to become hooligans? This question has been the cause of major debate in the sociological community. Jerusalem and its two professional soccer teams, HaPoel Jerusalem FC and Beitar Jerusalem FC, have been affected and do affect the Arab-Israeli conflict surrounding them. Each team represents a different social group, with different belief systems and political supporters. With so much emphasis placed on the teams, politicians have used each fan base to represent their own party’s beliefs. Beitar Jerusalem has been linked to right-wing anti-Arab groups since its founding, while HaPoel Jerusalem has represented left-wing Israeli workers unions. The prevalent political ties to Jerusalem’s professional soccer teams have only further complicated the already hostile Arab-Israeli conflict.
The Grapes of Wrath illustrates, in a not so subtle way, the challenges that migrants faced, such as prejudice behavior from others, on their way to California. They were treated unfairly for their entire lives. Most believe that discrimination exists only within gender and race but the Joads and the rest of the “Okies” experienced it as well. “…at times, lived down to the prejudiced views of them, in a state where "Okie" was almost a racial epithet”(Hagen 1). The characters that lived in the novel faced great adversity.
Within these two categories, there are rivalries between teams that have reached such extraordinary heights that it affects the way the thirty-three Colombian departments see each other, in particular, Antioquia and Cundinamarca, more specifically, Medellin and Bogota. The rivalry between these two cities is so potent that when their soccer teams play against each other, fans are killed after the game. The violence within Colombia’s league is indicative of the political turmoil and tensions between departments that create greater violence in the country as a whole. However, it is uncanny that when the Colombian National team qualified for the 2014 World Cup, Colombia was not divided into departments: everyone was simply Colombian. This phenomena can only be explained with Bill Shankly’s statement about soccer: “some people believe soccer is a matter of life and death… I assure you it is much more important than that” (Shankly).

This sport has caused intense nationalistic views and has brought countries together. Even though soccer has brought countries together, the game has driven countries away from each other just like what happened in Germany in the 1974 World Cup when East and West Germany played against each other.
